Today we’d like to introduce you to Arexy Rios Galicia

Hi Arexy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello. My name is Arexy. I am the owner of Artistry Nails & Beauty. From a very young age I was always attracted to the Nail industry, from pretending to be a Nail Tech and doing my Grandmother’s Manicure and Pedicure to even my Dad receiving the pampering treatment. As a kid I would also love buying the DIY Nail kits from the stores and glueing them on myself and and adding polish on them. I remember when I culminated from 5th grade I begged my mom to allow me to get my nails done. It was my first Acrylic set and ever since then I would save up and get my nails done whenever I would be allowed to. Fast forward to becoming an adult. I decided to take a beginners Nail course with V-Beauty Pure in 2019. I was 8 month’s pregnant with my second child and I was desperate to try and find a way to be able to still provide and be able to be more present for my kids. Sadly that didn’t happen as planned because I had to return back to work shortly after and a few years passed by and the opportunity of taking over the lease of where my salon is now, came by and I decided to take it. I took over the lease in February 2024 and I navigated the complexities of planning, building and safety, inspections, and permits with the City of Huntington Park. The actual building process didn’t start until August 2024. During this time after doing as much research as I could from other Nail Salons and even Home based Nail Techs, I decided to enroll myself into Nail Tech school to become Licensed. I think as much research I did and could’ve done, going to school was the best decision I made. It really prepared me for what it takes to be a nail tech and a nail salon owner. I graduated late October and opened my salon on November 24, 2024. I aim to challenge the “chop shop” stereotype of nail salons by offering a relaxing, cute and feminine environment where clients can unwind and enjoy self-care at an affordable price. My salon has a very welcoming atmosphere, but especially for Latina clients who may face language barriers at other salons. I take pride in my achievements and I am very grateful for the support and compliments from our community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I faced numerous challenges while building my business, especially navigating the complexities of working with City Hall in Huntington Park. I hired someone to help design the blueprints and received invaluable support from my uncle, who assisted with all of the remodeling. Along the way, I got to network with many people who helped me reach this point. Despite moments of doubt and fear about the future—especially being the first in my family to own a business in LA—I am very proud of what I’ve accomplished. I’ve recognized the lack of guidance available to me as a new nail salon owner, and I plan on creating videos in where I can talk about all of my journey more in detail to share all of my experiences and lessons to help others with similar dreams.

I envision my salon being known for its Artistic approach to nails, from classic nail designs to the newest trends and products to hand-drawn characters. The importance of cleanliness, and time to achieve the best retention, shaping and longevity of your nails. I am dedicated in trying to educate and change the dynamic in the public about what a nail salon experience should be like.

What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future God willing would be to own more Salons and starting my own brand would be such an accomplishment.
