Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Repajic-johnson
Hi Michelle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Being from an Armenian and Serbian background, I was always around cooking and baking. My grandmother taught me how to make Baklava when I was very young, and this recipe was passed down from her mother. Over the years I started to experiment with different recipes, all while learning from my mother and grandmothers. I finally got into making cookies, cupcakes, cakes and other pastries. In 2018, I formally developed a business called Sweet Stix, with my brother. To date, we have catered numerous events, made many custom cakes and desserts and have perfected our Baklava, carrying on our ancestors’ legacy.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve had my fair share of learning curves and mistakes, but all of those have made me who I am today and how I approach my business and each order.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Our specialty is Baklava, but we also love to create custom cakes for weddings and other events, cookies, cake pops, cupcakes and various other pastries, whether they be American, European or Middle Eastern. We bring our own unique touch to each item and everything is freshly made to order.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Social media is our main source of networking but we have also made great connections at events we have catered or participated in.
