Monty, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Having been a pioneer in helping churches understand modern worship expressions, I soon developed a vast network of curious, innovative artists around the country. They eventually became, to my surprise, a precious resource as many churches began to reach out to me looking for “talent” to help them grow in a postmodern context. Before I knew it, I became busier helping churches and artists connect. This became a natural and growing service that hundreds of churches and thousands of talented people now consider a “go to” when connecting with the right fit…. known as Slingshot Group: Staffing and Coaching Churches toward the remarkable!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was mostly uphill in the beginning years, and is now somewhat smooth. Ironically, we launched Slingshot in 2008 at the same time the real estate market collapsed and the market confidence was in the gutter. Having no experience in staffing, I made things up intuitively along the way. Sometimes, in a new space like the church, it is not business as usual when it comes to staffing. To no surprise, our “secret sauce” was hiring the most talented people on the planet along the way. I always say, “the strength of a team equals the strength of the organization.” A perfect thing to say when you’re a staffing company, right?

Slingshot Group is a faith based, non-profit organization serving the local church and non-profits in search and coaching services. We are all about building a trusted relationship with our customers which leads to a lasting partnership with the people and organizations we serve. We believe it takes one to know one. So when it comes to recruiting the best people possible for churches and non-profits, our team are experts in each area of ministry. Not only do we search out great people, we lovingly provide coaching along the way.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
We define success not only by reaching our business goals, but more importantly, by measuring if the people we help place THRIVE! Do they really love their work? If they love their work and are good at it, it’s likely they will stay for the long haul, and that is our goal!
