Kelly, so thrilled to have you joining us again, this time to talk all about products and so let’s jump right in. Please give our audience some background on the product side.
Allow us to introduce the beacon of unparalleled softness, the Barely Canadian Insanely Soft Hoodie—the ultimate in comfort and style. Crafted locally in Los Angeles, this hoodie isn’t just about softness; it’s about making a difference. As a family-run, social enterprise based in Venice, California, we proudly produce sustainable apparel that gives back to the community. Every purchase supports Foster Youth organizations, with 20% of proceeds donated to make a positive impact. Plus, we’re dedicated to training and hiring foster youth, providing them with valuable opportunities.

How do you maintain quality and consistency even as you grow and scale?
When I first started Barely Canadian, my main focus was high quality fabrics that were ridiculously soft and comfy fabrics. 3 years later, we became so particular about our fabrics, we started creating our own blends of modal fabrics that are milled right here in Los Angeles.
Modals are incredibly expensive to create, but when you wear one of our hoodies, you’ll see why we insist on that level of softness.
The other notable and fantastic thing about modal is that it’s an eco-friendly alternative to cotton and polyester. Modals are made from beech trees and requires 10-20 less water to produce. All that softness with less impactful on the environment. It’s a win/ win.
Have you tried any fun, non-traditional marketing ideas? If so, we’d love to hear the story and details.
We’re about to launch a commemorative Insanely Soft Hoodie with Robbie Robertson, songwriter and guitarist for the iconic rock group The Band, for an Exclusive Thanksgiving Hoodie to Benefit Foster Youth, which we’re very excited about.
We’re also proud to be aligned with Rize Credit Union who donates one of our Insanely Soft Hoodies to a child in foster care for each new account opened.
What are you most thankful for?
We’re foster-to-adopt family who welcomed our incredible children as teenagers from foster care, and we’re thrilled to continue our mission of serving kids in care through our brand. We’re beyond grateful to have our kids with us knowing that many don’t find forever homes.
Knowing that over 50% of the unhoused population and over 80% of those in the prison system have experienced foster care, supporting Foster Youth is crucial. They are one of our most important and deserving populations.
