Rising Stars: Meet Ticara Devone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ticara Devone.

Hi Ticara, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started off in the music industry as a freelance writer for publications like Big Boy’s Neighborhood, Sway and Nicky Geezy. I also worked as a freelance Digital Marketing Manager on multiple projects, one being grammy nominated singer-songwriter Elijah Blake. During this time, I had my own music website, Vita 10|17 where we focused on interviewing music producers and artists on their journey such as Bongo By The Way, Nash B, Tink and more. I then transitioned to focusing more on sneakers and fashion and worked for CNKDaily for three years, where I helped craft some of their first editorials, event coverage and more. I was able to build a relationship with the brands through my hardworking and journalism background. Now, I am full-time freelance and have worked with many brands such as Nike, Jordan, Vans, Puma, Footlocker, Timberland, McDonald’s, the list goes on.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve always gone against the grain when it’s come to my career. I never wanted to do something that didn’t interest me. That means when a job no longer suits me, I knew it was time to move on. I came to this point in 2020 where I knew it was time for me to do something different but I was so comfortable with what I was doing before that I was scared to fly. Eventually during the pandemic, I was able to step out and try new things and create a new path for myself.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Sneaker Reporter and Content Creator on the daily. If there’s a sneaker dropping, I’m pretty sure I can tell you all about it and even tell you about its inspiration and materials. I also create content in video form whether it is for a platform like YouTube or short-form like Instagram and TikTok. I’m known for pairing my sneakers with dope outfits (as the public would say) but I like to have fun with shoes and fashion. I wake up every day and get to be authentically me and that’s what sets me apart. I’m just me, Ticara. One of the things I am most proud of is my work with Nike Chicago. I had the opportunity to be a guide for their Nike School Chicago program and not only did I help their students but they helped me get over my fear of public speaking. We learned and we grew together.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was a music kid, I grew up playing classical piano, musical theatre and voice.
