Hi Natalie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When my sister got married in March 2022, I couldn’t find the appropriate evening bag for black-tie events and quickly realized there was a gap within the market. I started designing small wristlets and my friends wanted to wear them to weddings and events, too! I started my business on Instagram selling just black and white silk wristlets and then launched my website in December 2022 with several more fabric and color options. All NLA Collection purses are handmade in Los Angeles. As an LA native, this part of my business is extremely important to me. I source all fabric here in LA, too.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When it comes to design, I love creating pieces that I know I’ll wear over and over again, and hopefully others will, too. It’s not easy to make decisions as a founder and business owner, but I always trust my intuition and it tends to work.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I started NLA Collection in fall 2022, with dreams of creating a timeless evening bag at an affordable price point. The small NLA wristlet is perfect for events because you can wear it on your wrist and not have to worry about holding a clutch or putting your purse down. The simple design makes it effortlessly chic with any outfit. I lean into color palettes and fabrics that look amazing with both formal gowns and everyday outfits.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Starting any business is a risk. I definitely consider myself an artist and a risk-taker.
I went to USC School of Cinematic Arts, graduated in 2018, and have always been very passionate about working with artists. I pursued a career in entertainment for five years before deciding to venture out into the fashion world and testing out my design ideas.
My next launch is going to include some (very) bright colors and patterns. I believe in being bold, experimenting, and seeing what works!
