Rising Stars: Meet Long Journey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Long Journey.

Hi Long, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always had a deep love for music since a young age and although I played basketball for most of my childhood, I always kept music somewhere close. Even though I mostly do hip hop/rap, I was always inspired by the Motown/Soul Funk music era so that would be the sounds I would gravitate towards all due thanks to my father’s musical taste. I was also a big wrestling and star wars fan when I was growing up so I definitely love to often use references from the two. I first got into actually playing music when I was in elementary school, I played the baritone in the school band. While in middle school, I learned to play to trombone in the school’s band but quit shortly after realizing my genuine lack of interest in playing the instrument at that time. It wasn’t until high school 10th grade when I would first write my first “16” bar verse after having to sit out a year and half of playing basketball due to California’s school transferring regulations.

All I would do is write during those times I could not be on the school team, it started to become my new escape from my current living situations at the time. I eventually put out my first mixtape project “562” towards the end of my senior year of high school. I haven’t really looked back since. Music became my primary interest as my love for basketball started to slowly dwindle. I had to start from scratch though, especially in Hip Hop, a genre whose history & origin I wasn’t too familiar with. Took me years to really learn and observe the basics of the rap game and how I can apply my own twist when creating music. I know I will always be a student of all music genres but as a rap artist, I knew how important it was to pay respects to all those who paved the way before me because “hip hop” had to break so many barriers down to reach the mainstream platform that it now currently thrives on.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely has not been a smooth road. There has been many struggles, frustration, insecurity, vulnerability, and betrayal. No matter what it is you’re doing in life, these trials and tribulations will be there to simply test you mentally, emotionally, physically and most important spiritually. This game is survival of the fittest and that’s why I believe you have to be absolutely flexible when it comes to adaptation. Meaning you have to learn how to “grow with flow” instead of going against it. Change is inevitable and when you can accept that you start to learn how to adjust to situations that may not be going as you originally planned while still flourishing.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Being free and seeing other people genuinely happy. I am a giver/provider by nature so I am completely fulfilled by helping others as well as myself achieve ultimate freedom (i.e., financially, spiritually, emotionally, etc.).
