Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Lu.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After dating yet another abusive man, I decided I needed to take a step back and understand what it was about myself that resonated with this type of human, take accountability for my role so that I can learn and grow. Five months later, I started a little girlpower page with the topic of toxic relationships, it was very innocent girl talk, but during this time I was being stalked, hoovered and harassed by my most recent ex. I remember the therapist saying he was a Narcissist so I did a deep dive and what I learned shocked me. I began to connect the dots all the way back to my father, it was the most devastating yet freeing time for me. The chains that were weighing me down were now broken and for the first time in my life, nobody had control over my emotions and the way I saw myself, knowledge is power. Strength can be found in the midst of your weakest days. As I connected the dots, I shared. I feel like the greatest gift you can give survivors of domestic abuse is the strength to understand they weren’t alone or crazy so they can move forward. So, I began to post traits, red flags and different tactics Narcissists use to control us. I finally love myself and love teaching others how to love themselves has become my passion in life.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I started this journey a year ago, and it has been the most rewarding experience for me. There have been some struggles with stalking, smear campaigns, etc. But I have stayed focused on healing my inner child and not on the attempts to silence me and stunt my growth. Toxic people can’t help but show themselves so that “block” button has been one heck of a backup!
I have found so much strength from the little community of healing that we have built as survivors of domestic abuse, I’m so proud of all the people who chose themselves, their health and happiness over toxicity and abuse. It’s not easy. Obstacles are meant to be overcome and we will succeed, love will always win.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Creatively, this newfound love to empower others has become my passion in life so life coaching might just become my future.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up in a rough part of North Hollywood, so I saw way too much way too soon. I think I have always been street-smart and knew it was a tough world out there. I have been on my own since I was 14 years old. It’s hard to imagine a young girl out there supporting, feeding and providing shelter for herself at such a young age, but I did it. Thinking about it now, my biggest interest was love and my hobbies seemed to revolve around it. Writing music and poetry was my favorite thing to do and I loved listening to music.
