Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Champa.
Hi Jennifer, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi I’m Jenn, and I am an Incense Artisan. I make Handmade , All-Natural, Eco-Friendly Incense as the founder of Magixstyx. I have a medical background as a Physical Therapist and I know how important it is to have proper self-care during healing. Having a healthy mindset and relaxing environment can really elevate the quality of healing during rehab. Lighting incense for me is a large part of my lifestyle, as I was raised in a traditional Laotian Buddhist household. Growing up, I watched my parents use incense to honor ancestors, and to connect with their spirituality. This ritual gave me comfort and guidance. It taught me ways to express my gratitude for life. As I became more aware of the products I consumed, I struggled to find high-quality incense on the market that would be fitting for my own sacred rituals. There are tons of incense available today that are dipped in chemicals and synthetic fragrances that are harmful for you and the environment. As a result, I decided to learn how to formulate my own incense recipes from all-natural materials. Incense is used worldwide for meditation, physical ailments, to purify the air, spiritual purposes, aromatherapy, and to uplift spirits. Using woods, resins, herbs, spices, and tree barks, I seek to create the ambiance for beautiful and sacred spaces. I want everyone to have access to high-quality incense and harness the pure power of plants.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Developing Magixstyx was not an easy task, but it is definitely rewarding. One obstacle I faced was creating incense with the correct blends of amounts and scents of botanical materials. Incense-making is an ancient art and science that requires a delicate balance, so the trial and error process is lengthy. It was important to me to immerse myself in learning, so that I could respect the process and the cultures around the world that make different styles and forms of incense. It is rare to find and learn from artisans who use real plants. Also, it was a challenge to source high-quality ingredients with suppliers who practice ecological harvesting. The materials I source are from all over the world, and I wanted to find the right suppliers who are committed to respecting our ecosystem. From the sourced materials to the moment you burn Magixstyx, I only want to pass on Good Vibes to you for all of your intentions.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The world of artisanal incense is deeply rooted in history, and I strive to continually learn and improve my art. I am most proud that all of the materials I use in Magixstyx are natural, and that I do not compromise in the quality of ingredients. The incense box lists the ingredients that I use, so you are aware of what you are burning. It is handmade right here in Los Angeles, CA, USA, and I am so happy to see people using it. It is also my goal to cultivate happiness and gratitude in my own life, so that the energy from maker to consumer is vibrationally high.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Recently, I have been immersed in the hobby of flying FPV drones, which allows me to see nature from a different perspective. The feeling of flight is freeing, and custom drone builds serve different flight purposes. I have learned so much in the drone community. Much like incense making, the possibilities are endless in learning how to fly drones. I like to continually challenge myself and love to learn. There are so many hidden talents we can discover if we are just a little bit curious to learn more about ourselves and our own endless capabilities.
