Rising Stars: Meet Heaven Luna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heaven Luna.

Hi Heaven, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I became deeply rooted in music since I was as young as six. I had always loved to sing, but it wasn’t till I was about 17 that I actually considered a career in music. I remember I moved to LA not knowing anyone and meeting the coolest guy ever (shout out to Omar Walrus) who heard I had a beautiful voice. We’ve been best friends ever since. I remember at the peak of the pandemic, Omar invited me over to his studio just to “sing together”. That’s the very day I made my first ever official song. Looking back at it, I realize that my success and accomplishments happened so organically. Nothing was forced, or planned, or even predicted. It just was.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It absolutely has not been a smooth road. If anything, it’s been rather difficult. I took about a year off of trying to write music or even get into a studio. I think a lot of creatives agree with me when I say imposter syndrome is real. The biggest struggle I would say is my mental health. It’s so easy to lose yourself in the deadlines and the pressure that you forget you actually enjoy doing this thing you know you were born to do. It was incredibly hard making the decision to take a break and reevaluate my choices and what I wanted for my future as not only an artist but also a person.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am for sure most proud of my song “Azul”. Although I will always be proud of my song “Don’t want u” because it is my first song, “Azul” shows a different intensity that my other song didn’t. There are so many small details that I made sure to include to paint a story for my audience. The Spanish snippet I sing at the end pierces the heart in a way that English just wouldn’t. I wanted the harmonies to flow and sound like I’m singing to a memory. I know that all of these small things are what allow people to connect to my song in a very tangible way.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I would say honesty. I need honesty for my lyrics, honesty from my producer, even from my family. I need to know how people honestly feel about my art. Of course, that doesn’t mean I would change on their behalf, but it’s so refreshing to see different perspectives. Trust and Truth are hand in hand. In order to trust my producer and trust myself, I need to be honest- even if it’s brutal. People are so scared of the truth, but I’ve noticed so much growth and beauty comes from it.
