Today we’d like to introduce you to Eliza Emerald Swann.
Hi Eliza Emerald, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m a mystic and an artist – I founded the Golden Dome School as a space for artists who are interested in mysticism. I organized the school in 2014 as I was working through what art and magic could do to help a world deep in the throes of inequity and climate collapse. Since then, a beautiful community has emerged and we’re working together to create possibility. The community has reinforced my belief that magic has a large role to play in creating the world. In September and October of 2022, we’re collaborating with the Philosophical Research Society to produce an art exhibition and talks related to the visual and literary history of alchemy. I’m also working on a book about the relationship between art and magic and painting away!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The challenge for so many arts organizations in the US is how to organize in accordance with our evolving ethics and how to stay funded!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an artist, intuitive, educator and writer. I’m working on a book at the moment about how I came into the worlds of art and magic and how they relate to one another. It’s an embarrassing and messy process that asks me to show my desire in plain sight, reveal family agonies, put my chain-smoking pentagram drawing teenage self on view.
