Rising Stars: Meet Ebony Belser

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony Belser.

Hi Ebony, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Ebony Cimon (Simon) Belser, CEO, creative director, and designer of ECBcreations, LLC. ‘I AM ECBCREATIONS AND ECBCREATIONS IS ME.’ ECBC, LLC was established in 2016, when I was going through a very rough spot in my life and crocheting became my safe haven. With the grace of god and the help, collaboration, and support of family, friends and peers of/outside of my community, ECBC has been in business for six years now. ECBC specializes in LUXE hand-made crochet clothing & accessories, Vegan cosmetics, and Home decor. I started out only making crochet chokers, to now creating full-blown ensembles like tops, dresses, handbags, you name it, ECBC can create it! ECBC is majorly known for crochet custom pieces for ALL genders and ethnic groups, predominately women, but over these past 6 years of business, I took it upon myself to branch out and expand ECBC, LLC to something more then just “custom clothing”. ECBC’s sister brands are Ecbcosmetics, Ecbhome, and ECBC’s new Media outlet Via Youtube called Crochet & Convos, your very 1st visual crochet BROADcast. A lot of hand work, dedication, energy, money, wins, losses and lessons got me where I am today, and I’m honestly only getting started!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’d be lying if I said that things would be easy and that this has been a smooth sailing ship, but all the. Bumps along the road have been well worth it. Some of the struggles I’ve had along the way was one of the main issues a lot of black-owned businesses have gone through, which is lack of funding. Another big issue, which is another issue many business owners have/had, which is being financially illiterate. Knowing how to make money but not knowing how to keep a steady influx of pay. Lastly, one of my struggles was maintaining the courage to keep going due to a lack of sales, media algorithms, etc. With all these struggles, ECBC has not given up and does not plan to but to continue to use those hard times as amo to go harder!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I wear many hats in regard to ECBC. I design and actually hand-make all my pieces, whether they take days or weeks. I also play the role of the PR and I am in charge of all of my marketing and creative direction. Although I have no background in marketing or even graphic designing, I’ve done a lot of self-teaching over these six years. All that to say, I specialize in the arts. ECBC is known for Unique but simplistic crochet pieces and infuses these creations with other expressions of art, like modeling, media, music, photography, etc. I am very proud of all of ECBC’s accomplishments over these 6 years, Big and small. From the articles to the fashion shows to the sales and collaborations, ECBC is grateful for the impact that has been accumulated simply off of pure passion and the love for what’s being done. What sets ECBC apart from many is that all of ECBC’s creations are handmade with a lot of love, energy, depth, and TIMING. I take a lot of pride in my designs and pride myself on being different and exclusive from other crochet artists and artists in general. I study fashion and the arts and educate myself as much as possible on what I plan to put out into the world, again the goal is to be known for more than just ‘custom clothing’ or just another ‘online boutique’ or shop.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
One surprising fact about me is that I am the ultimate MOMtrepreneur lol I am a single mom of a 12 years old son with a pretty normal life. I’m not very open about mixing my personal life too much with my business and have very valid reasonings for that. My son is aware of ECBC and that one day, the legacy that is being built will be passed over to him to do with it as he will.
