Today we’d like to introduce you to Derwan Wade.
Hi Derwan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started doin music when I was seven years old just freestyling on the block with the older cats ……but none of them never put me in the studio. My friend from elementary big brother named damo was the 1st person to put me in the studio ……after that me n my best friend/ brother lil face made a group called the paper boyz….. We used to buy instrumentals from our local cd man until we noticed we couldn’t get rich off other people beats. My cousin homeboy patient Picasso showed me some steps n put fruity loops on a desktop my mom brought for the house… my dad was a preacher he died when I was 11 and my brother lil face got killed in 2009 them two is my biggest motivation.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely have been ups n downs. I lost out on a lot because my business wasn’t right and I had too much pride back in the day to admit or ask for help. I worked 9 to 5 to make ends meet even tho I had people like Nipsey, Rj, Afro man and more on my beats.
Not having a car to my car breaking down to catching the bus but overall, I never gave up.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Rapper, clothing line, producer, my own dipping sauce and acting
Honestly, I could’ve went down the same road as my peers but I stayed focused n my peers made sure I didn’t lose focus or get into the things they got into.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Never giving up no matter what ……pushing thru the negativity keeping god 1st and understanding my father n brother is my guardian angels.
