Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniele Ciaravolo.
Hi Daniele, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a musician and producer based in London, UK. I started my musical journey in 2008 and, since then I’ve worked hard to improve my abilities so that I could make a living from music. After receiving my Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Guitar in my hometown in Italy, I moved to London, UK to study for a Master’s degree in Music Production, all while gathering experience in all aspects of how music is played, recorded, taught, and reproduced. Nowadays, I enjoy working in many aspects of the music industry, from performing in small to big venues, producing, composing, and recording music, and being a sound engineer and a teacher too.
I actively work on my personal artist project, Cislunar. I perform electronic music inspired by artists such as Bonobo and Four Tet. In my shows, I play real and software instruments, including guitar, keys, and drums to create improvised electronic music tracks matched with compelling visuals, making each event unique. I believe that creating a new distinctive event every time makes it more meaningful to the audience.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road, in the music industry the main struggle is to network and know the right people in order to get the right jobs. This is true also for the musicians you collaborate with, while it is easy to find very good musicians, it is harder to find someone that shares the same vision when working on a project. Besides, the biggest struggle, like for many others, has been the pandemic in 2020, there were times when we were not sure we would perform live again.
What I believe to be my best skill is being a very flexible musician. My experience allowed me to develop a good ear and attention to detail, as well as problem-solving skills. I can perform almost any genre and therefore make it faster and simpler to get jobs done; I learned long ago how to improvise, not just in music, but in other aspects of life too.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Recently, I got interested in ambisonics audio and visually immersive experiences, therefore I’ve started including those in my performances. I will soon release my own music and prepare new unique immersive performances. I want my music to be a pathway to explore new avenues and push the boundaries of creativity.
