Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Ferris.
Hi Brianna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
At an early age in Atlanta, Georgia, I was always acting out skits for the family and neighborhood subdivision.
I moved to New York shortly after I spent two years at community college to pursue acting. My parents were nervous about my move to the Big Apple as a 20-year-old.
I stayed with my cousins in New York, and I’m forever grateful for my extended family supporting me with a roof over my head as a young 20-year-old.
After living in New York for three years, I moved to Hollywood. I was excited about this new chapter, and I didn’t know many people except my talent manager, directors I interned for, and executive film producers. I was auditioning, booking indie films, booking commercial-print jobs, interning with a variety of film & television directors, and babysitting/working with charities on the side to pay for rent.
In 2016, I welcomed my handsome son to the world. My world changed as an artist when I got pregnant and had a child. I wanted to give my son my undivided attention. I believe there needs to be a balance as a parent. You have to also put yourself first and fuel yourself as a parent with what you love to give the most to them.
With being a full-time mother I needed to find a way to work creatively… a friend of mine offered me a teaching job to me. I took the coaching position, and I found a happy balance with still acting by coaching clients and seeing them succeed. I also coached at The Actors Scene in Buford, Georgia, from 2010 to 2012.
I opened my business at B Ferris Coaching two years ago when I got pregnant with my second child. B Ferris Coaching & Consulting has done well since opening, and I think our clients enjoy learning from the comfort of their homes. I coach actors everywhere online through Zoom/Google-Chat/Skype, in-person in Burbank, California, and offer in-person workshops in Atlanta once a year.
I love that I can have a flexible schedule as a mother of two. My parents have always supported me with what I wanted to do. I want to be able to give the support my parents did to me, to my two children.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Some days can be a challenge being a full-time working mom and trying to leave my schedule open and flexible, as my client’s needs may change.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I train upcoming and working actors acting; helping actors refine their character and bring themselves to the role. I also package actors to make sure all of their materials are consistent, specific, and themselves!
I help build resumes to industry standards and review your headshots, online casting profiles, and social media. I believe what sets me apart from others is the training can be done online and I’m easy to build a relationship with as a coach and person. I encourage my clients to practice being comfortable with stepping outside of their comfort zone.
I have been coaching and teaching acting classes over the last eleven years in Atlanta, NYC, and Los Angeles. I’m a professional coach with experience in commercial/print-ad, theater, film, and prime time television in the U.S.
I enjoy helping actors cultivate and protect their uniqueness, vulnerability, and love during the often stress-inducing audition process. I coach actors privately and also leverage my experience to serve as a career consultant for emerging talent who wish to better understand the business of acting.
I have insight into both sides professionally… behind the scenes and in front of the camera. I have worked closely with directors, writers, and executives. Working closely with my clients to fulfill their dreams and desires is what makes me thrive! I work with actors from East to West Coast to build their confidence to go into the audition room.
I work one-on-one with my clients through Skype – Zoom – Google – FaceTime, or in-person group settings in Burbank.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see the industry being hybrid as your personal choice for auditions and training. It use to be in person only for training and auditions. Now actors have the choice to self-tape, live audition online, and train online.
