Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Gunter.
Hi Brian, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I guess my story begins before I was born. My grandfather and dad were both cinematographers which made photography a big part of my childhood. I still love photography and it’s a big part of my life. A while ago, someone asked me to shoot some headshots for them which lead to more people asking. Then someone asked me to photograph their wedding and now I’ve done over 100 weddings and 100’s of headshots. Besides meeting awesome people and going to cool places, I think the part of photography I love most is that there is room to grow, improve, be creative and look at things with different perspectives. There is a lot to love about photography but without a doubt, the most gratifying part of photography is happy repeat clients.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I was lucky to learn early on that while photography has rules and structure it is also art and needs to have emotion and life. These are difficult things to accomplish and, of course, mistakes were made and moments were lost. But with every mistake made, a solution was also made. Part of the fun of photography is that each photoshoot has its own series of challenges and as experience grows, so does our ability to create images within the obstacles.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a photographer specializing in portraits, I am proud of all my photos, even my landscape photos. I am most known for my headshots but family photo sessions are quickly catching up. I also shoot fashion, catalogs, engagements and weddings. Enjoying different niches might be what sets me apart from others. Actually, I like changing styles of photography and creating images that both myself and my clients want. I have found this is a great way to stay creative and energetic.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Happy clients make me happy. A happy wife and kids make me happy. Adventures, learning and music also make me happy. It’s hard not to be happy at the beach or in a pool.
