Today we’d like to introduce you to William Brun.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a self-taught artist in my 80s and have been painting for over 60 years now, one of my first pieces was a mural when I was in the service in Germany. I have pieces hanging in homes around the world, plus a few in galleries as well as an ongoing showing on Pico in Mid City. My Jewish faith and my family have inspired a lot of my art. I am constantly working and to date, my work is numbered in the thousands. Each one unique and special… at least to me.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
If anyone says they’ve had a smooth road constantly no matter how wealthy or healthy, then they’re lying. I lost my wife a few years back who was ill, and it was sad to watch, she was my best friend. It also happened about this time my daughter was diagnosed with a neurological disease. I kept her at home as long as I could and took care of her, however now she’s in a private Hospital in Long Beach and pretty much every dollar I make goes to taking care of her.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Art By W.B. – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Well, as I stated before my art is very personalized and I use multimedia as well. Though I’m pretty much known known for working in acrylic or oil paint. I was one of the first artists to use computers for art when they came out.
I’m capable of working in most styles of art and might have been more profitable as a result, but once I’d found my way to something uniquely my own I felt that I would be lying to myself if I were to compromise what I’d developed. I’m not sure if that sets me apart from the others because I’d like to believe every true artist is just a true artist
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Well, number one is to just keep doing what I’m doing. It’s what I’m supposed to do. I’ve recently been retained by publicist which is a first for me. I also have a business partner by the name of Jessica, a young lady in her twenties who wants to be involved in the art world and she’s really helped me. She’s the one who set up the show on Pico with LED lights. My publicist is planning a reception for me in the upcoming months and I’m enjoying riding the train instead of having to drive it myself.
