Meet West LA Graphic Designer and Photographer: S A K Boun

Today we’d like to introduce you to S A K Boun.

S A K, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I purchased an SLR for my then fiance for her birthday as a gift a while back. She said, it had too many buttons and told me to play with it. The rest was history.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’m a graphic designer by trait, so we tend to have this odd view/perspective on life. Once I looked through the viewfinder, everything felt natural for me. The only struggles that I’ve encountered would be the prices of the L lenses.

Have you ever wanted to stop doing what you do and just start over?
There are a few moments that makes me want to put my camera down and quit. Sometimes when I have a vision of what the image should look like but I can’t seem to portrayed it on film, it’s very frustrating. Then I realized, it takes practice and if you do it long enough, you’ll develop a style for yourself.

What would you tell someone who is just starting out?
Just go out and start taking pictures. Another good practice is to sketch out your shots. If you have a model you’re working with, it helps them see your vision. Makes it easier for everyone.

Is there something you are particularly excited about or working towards?
My son will be one soon. He doesn’t know it but he’ll be my main model until he can learn to say “I quit.”
