Meet Vincent Aiello

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vincent Aiello.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Born in Canoga Park, I attended the NAS Pt Mugu airshow at age eight and decided I wanted to be a military pilot. After graduating UCLA, I spent 25 years in the U.S. Navy flying the F/A-18 Hornet and F-16 Viper, deploying all over the world. Upon retiring from the Navy in 2017, I started the Fighter Pilot Podcast as a way to share my experiences with those who want to understand the fascinating world of air combat. I also became an LAX-based airline pilot.

The Fighter Pilot Podcast is wrapping up its fourth year with over 125 episodes and well over 4.5M downloads. Hosting the show is a continued way to serve and I often receive grateful feedback from delighted listeners.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Podcasting is easy to do but difficult to do well, requiring specialized skills. Releasing new episodes several times each month is a grind.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I leverage my military aviation experiences, including as a former TOPGUN instructor, to entertain and inform listeners on air combat aircraft, weapons systems, and–most importantly–the people involved.

I am known for my humility and candor. I am proud of the fact that the show is more about the topic then my own personal glory and enjoy dispelling Hollywood stereotypes of fighter pilots.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
When podcasting, as in life, I strive to be authentic, factual, and personable.
