Meet Venice Photographer: Nico Apo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nico Apo.

Nico, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started taking photos in grade school. I was always the one with the camera in my hand. Receiving film back from the lab was something I loved. It was so cool to see moments that had transpired weeks or months before. I have a foot locker full of photographs I took from grade school through college. Every 5 years or so, I sit down and look through them. It’s fun!

Has it been a smooth road?
There are always challenges and obstacles. If you stay true to yourself and most of all, make art for yourself, great things will happen!

Has there been people or an institution that has played a pivotal role in your career?
When I first moved to California, I started showing my photography at a modern design store in downtown San Diego called Mixture. I started printing and selling huge prints through them. They believed in my art and I am very thankful.

What type of clients or projects do you look forward to most?
It would be fun to shoot more editorial work. I’ve always been passionate about music, perhaps shooting musicians!

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you were just starting out?
Find a photo agent! Being your own promoter is tough work.
