Meet Trailblazer Talia Boggan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Talia Boggan.

Talia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We got started when we both lost our previous job teaching at a fitness studio in Newport Beach. At first, we wanted to start small but the demand required us to step up to the plate. We started leasing at a studio with just a morning schedule and soon added our night schedule at a second location across town. We grew out of those after about a year and a half and moved into our own space in June of 2017! We’ve been here for almost two years. We’ve gone from four instructors, including Chelsea and myself to 14, not including us! Just this year, we’ve implemented a new HIIT Class, we’re launching our online streaming service at the end of February on our 3rd Birthday and we’re teaming up with Trampoline Parks to add fitness to their schedules! Bounce cardio is defiantly a niche market, but the loyalty is unbeatable.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, yes, it has. The biggest struggle has always been timing, we were always forced to make big decisions when we didn’t think we were quite ready. They also always seem to come during a break-up or a new pregnancy. We’ve had to grow up and learn a lot about life in these times. In hindsight though, we were always ready and we just didn’t realize. This has helped us be more prepared for anything when we say we’re going to do something now. We are creating a plan and taking the necessary steps. No more waiting for “The right time.” We’ve been really lucky to have family’s, friends, members of Bounce Society & amazing instructors who are always ready to support our ideas and dreams.

My advice for anybody starting a business would be, three things…
One, don’t take NO for an answer. Sometimes, this is hard, so it’s important to leverage people who are better than you. For example; Chelsea and I tend to call on our Dad’s on a lot of things. They are both business owners in CA and can tell us if we are being shorted or overcharged or if we’re just calling the wrong people for the job we need to be done.

Two, surround yourself with people who actually support you and will tell you the truth. Meaning, they are in-class (if you run a studio), they help spread the message on social media and give you feedback to how they think it’s going. If they really are in your corner; they won’t mind paying prices and you’ll actually listen to them because they are actually a valued client of yours. It will surprise you how insightful your friends can be!

Three, as I said before “Be prepared.” Everything you think and put out into the universe can become real and if you’re thinking it but you’re not prepping for it… you will get yourself into a pickle. We are always believing that it will work out, but it would’ve been what I told myself three years ago before we got started.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bounce Society Fitness – what should we know?
We specialize in trampoline cardio. It’s the most enjoyable cardio EVER. It’s low-impact, 3x more effective than running, 80% less stress on your muscle-bearing joints and we burn up to 1000 calories in an hour. Bounce Society has some really impressive choreography that is unique to our method. The lights are colorful and the room is dark and the music is loud. We’ve turned every class into a celebration.

I think the best part of what we do is change the way people think of themselves. We help build confidence, body-awareness, coordination and more. Also, everybody wants to be here, everybody looks forward to it. From the instructors to the clients; we are obsessed. The trampoline is highly addictive and super effective.

I am absolutely hands down the proudest of our community. It is STRONG and LOYAL and HARDWORKING. We are surrounded by resilient individuals and we are so blessed to know every single one of them. Our instructors are coachable, yet creative and trustworthy. We hand choose them to teach here and they consistently step up to the plate to make a reality what Chelsea and I only dreamed was possible.

I think what sets us apart from others is the desire to BE better. A lot of places can get caught up in being trendy and thinking too much about what it looks like from the outside. Inside, we are correcting form, giving individual body cues, setting challenges and making a difference in peoples lives. I think, looking at it could be like we’re just having fun; which we are, but we, as a community are becoming better people; better bosses, better bouncers, better friends, and better workers. All in all, it’s crazy how well our community has assembled. We wouldn’t change it for a thing.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
It has always worked well to ask questions and surround ourselves with brilliant talented women. We don’t always just reach out to people in our world; sometimes, it’s a Guru Wrangler or a Mother, or a Teacher or an old friend. It’s important to talk to people who are successful in the field you’re asking about. I call somebody different for everything; when it comes to instructors, it’s probably my dance teacher that owned the studio I grew up dancing in. When it’s about taxes, I definitely call my mom, who is a financial advisor. When it comes to my personal feedback in class, I call Lisa Hubbard. When it comes to social media and trends, I call Makenzie Jandro. My point is there’s a bunch of people you should reach out to, rather than just one person who can mentor you in everything, but not super well.
