Meet Trailblazer Kimmie Jeppson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimmie Jeppson.

Kimmie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Hi there! Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity to share my story!

I started making my own all-natural beauty products for myself almost five years ago. I’ve had extremely sensitive skin and suffered from terrible eczema for half my life. I tried almost everything on the market and spent thousands of dollars on dermatology appointments, prescriptions and beauty products that promised so much but delivered little results and comfort. Eczema is extremely painful and uncomfortable. After my 2nd child was born in the winter, my eczema flared up in the worst way. I had dry, dull skin that was accompanied by stretch marks, breakouts, and dimples on the back of my thighs and behind. I was MORTIFIED! Fast forward to Easter dinner where I saw my Aunt Jenifer, who has always had the most gorgeous skin. I asked her what she did to have beautiful, flawless skin. She said to make a Coffee Scrub. I went to the store the next day and picked up Coffee, coconut oil and sugar to make a natural scrub. My skin felt so smooth and moisturized, but I needed more! Over the course of the next year, I was adding this or that to target this or that! In the process, I created my signature blend that COMPLETELY healed my eczema, faded my stretch marks and those pesky dimples left my behind and thighs! I felt so blessed and fortunate to have healed my skin and so many others( my mother was healed as well as others who tried it) that I decided to Pay It Forward and give 20 % of my purchases to the many causes that pull and tug at my heart. I mainly focus on mentoring at-risk youth and providing scholarships to school and emergency housing for the children that are aging out of the foster care system. Fun fact about me! Five years ago, I became a registered foster mom. Through that experience, I saw so much work that needs to be done and so many children right here in LA and Ventura County that desperately need our help. Someone to care. I feel extremely blessed to partner with such great organizations such as WOSMOH (Women of Substance, Men of Honor) who specialize in providing mentorship, emergency housing and job placement for youth that have aged out of the system. With every scrub purchased, I’m able to ” help save one youth at a time!”

Has it been a smooth road?
By the grace of God, this experience has been a tremendous blessing and smooth sailing overall. My business is basked in prayer every single day and I know that is my advantage. Nothing is ever perfect but I will tell you this, I feel like I was in a 4-year preparation to have what seems like an overnight success. I am learning so much and in such a short period of time. I’ve grown so much and have pushed myself completely out of my comfort zone which can be extremely uncomfortable at times but incredibly worth it. Most people starting a beauty brand would tell you to start at a farmers market or spa party with friends! My very first vendor event I signed myself up for had 1500 people attending and happened to be hosted by Dr.Cindy Trimm who I admire and respect and was fortunate enough to meet! I’m a ” go big or go home” kinda girl, and I also expect the best from myself at all times. This is my challenge. I’m learning to let the process be the process and enjoy the ride not just the end result. I also try my best to focus on what’s going right and celebrate every single victory no matter how big or small. I’m wearing many hats with as much grace as humanly possible. I’m a wife! I have 2 boys and they are 4 and 7 years old. I’m also an actress and start filming the web series Brothers In Law at the end of this month. My advice is this, GO FOR IT!! Go all in! Don’t hold back anything. Give it your all. Each person has been given many gifts, talents, and abilities and they are to be used on your special destiny to bless our world. You don’t need validation from anyone! Validate yourself. Encourage yourself! Believe in yourself and your unique path. For the love of God, DO NOT compare yourself to anyone else. It doesn’t matter what others are doing. It matters what YOU are doing with your 24 hours that you’ve been allotted. Be a self-starter!! Learn from the ants! No one tells them to work, yet they labor hard all summer, gathering food for the winter!! Proverbs 6:6

We’d love to hear more about Sheer Necessity.
Our charity work sets my company apart. My customers love being a part of a greater good. This Easter, my company sponsored an event where we bought and put together Easter baskets for children in the foster care system. I had customers, friends and family attend the event and received donations from people who couldn’t attend but wanted to give. I then had the divine privilege of speaking at the Children’s Bureau in Los Angeles before the social worker’s hand-delivered every basket to the children.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
There are barriers of course. However, I choose to focus my energy on what I can control. I call it ” Controlling the controllables!” Steve Martin said it best ” Be so good, they can’t ignore you!”
