Today we’d like to introduce you to Hee Jin Lee.
Hee Jin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started Instagram in 2011 & it was just a personal diary of the food that I eat + an occasional photo of my dogs.
I used to eat out every meal for years so that was a lot of restaurants. I liked trying different restaurants so I would always try the newest spots. I slowly started to gain a following, so I kept it up while working. And now, I am doing this full-time!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wouldn’t say it has been easy for me. Social media is such a new concept that I am always figuring out how to run my own brand. There is no set standard for working with brands/restaurants and it can be challenging at times. Also, there is always the constant struggle to get that perfect shot for the ‘gram and the pressure for that photo to be well-received. I try not to care about the likes and comments, but sometimes it can be hard to ignore when it is part of the job.
Always eating out is also an expensive hobby. And always taking photos during meals could sometimes be bothersome for the person accompanying me.But now, I think my friends just know to wait for me to take a photo and I’ve learned to take photos as fast as I can! Luckily, I have a great support system to help me pursue my dreams which makes it somewhat easier.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a food Instagrammer with a blog. I also create contents for brands. I have a culinary background so I also cook & feature recipes but my real passion is eating + traveling the world to eat!
I love to eat + feature all the new restaurants. I love a good noodle lift!
I do not discriminate & enjoy food of all types. I will try anything at least once.
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I just rely on my community of blogger friends who can relate to my experience. We exchange ideas about how to improve our brand.
