Meet Todd Koval of Ambiguous Music Group in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Todd Koval.

Todd, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been involved in the entertainment industry in various capacities for over 15 years.

My journey to the Music Industry began in the fall of 2015. My wife Alexa Joan Rae (the brain behind PLEXXAGLASS), and a band (Screams of Syrens) I was friends with were working with a producer in LA, and they weren’t happy with the quality of the recordings. I asked to chat with the producer to voice each of their concerns, the producer immediately raised his voice and told me I had no idea what I was talking about.

I handled that situation, and we all went to get dinner, and the vocalist, Trevor Laake from Screams of Syrens asked me if I wanted to be their manager and I’ve been off to the races ever since. PLEXXAGLASS and Screams of Syrens are my longest tenured clients and I wouldn’t be where I am today without each of them trusting, and believing in me, I’m forever indebted to each party. Needless to say without them Ambiguous Music Group wouldn’t exist today.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not always, I for one prefer a road that’s a little harder, not only in life but also in business. It makes those moments of success that much more rewarding.

Please tell us about Ambiguous Music Group.
At Ambiguous Music Group we pride ourselves on really listening to our clients, they become an integral part of our dynamic as a business.

We specialize in developing, and guiding artists of all genres, from all areas of the world from the ground up. Our roster boasts a robust clientele with no 2 bands sounding the same. We’re proud to work with Charles X, CVLTVRE, Dougie Greig, Garek, Gestures & Sounds, Herelies, Light the Fire, PLEXXAGLASS, Redeem / Revive, Screams of Syrens, and Young Ghosts. We have some new bands to announce in 2019, and a very special announcement for our metal/alternative fans out there set for early 2019.

I’ve worn many hats along the way, from band dad, graphic designer, confidant, music video director, music video producer, creative director, and much more. It’s the most rewarding role I’ve ever had.

Our artist management staff, Ben Watt, Shane Lewis, Johann Davilla, and Jack Mangikyan handle our client’s needs day to day and are amazing humans, our Production Guru Ben Quiles is on hand to assist in developing professional riders, assist with gear questions, and act as a FOH consultant as bands begin their touring journeys.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Playing hockey with my father, while we were playing he’d also give me life lessons that shaped who I became. Without him, I wouldn’t be who I am today.
