Meet Tina Carbone of Tina Carbone Films

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Carbone.

Tina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Although I have been involved in production since 2000, I feel like I really initiated my career as a producer about 6 years ago. I moved to L.A. in 2010 and began working as a junior producer. I spent a few years on the job, learning a lot, but soon realized that I wasn’t really happy where I was. I decided to start producing things I was excited and passionate about.

At first, it was small projects and short films with friends, but from there grew into bigger projects. I love to create and collaborate. It is a personal mission of mine to make the set a happy place where EVERYONE is respected, welcomed, and treated with kindness! I love to create an atmosphere where people smile, high five, and laugh their way through the day, while still making a professional, beautiful film we can be proud of! As filmmakers, we do this because we love the craft, so I believe it should never feel like a chore or a place of negativity.

I love to stay busy and usually stack projects so that it’s never too long till I’m on set again! I’ve been lucky to create with some amazing people and have some success in the festival circuit with a number of short films. Last summer I produced my first feature and I am currently in production on my second, with a handful of projects to follow!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I find that in L.A. there are a lot of people that have ideas and passion, but sometimes not the follow through to get it done. This leads to a lot of talk without an end result. I think this is one of the biggest struggles of living in such a creative town.

I also think that, unfortunately, there are a lot of manipulative people that feed off the excitement of people in this industry. I know that I have encountered this type of person and it can be pretty draining. However, once you find your tribe of like-minded creatives, you can accomplish amazing things!

Tina Carbone Films – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I have experience in most aspects of filmmaking, which I think makes me a better producer. I also work as a videographer and editor for a few select clients and non-profits.

I’m active in the female filmmaker’s community as an advocate for women on set. My enthusiasm, creativity, and ‘get it done’ attitude have helped me grow a successful career elevating productions with smaller budgets into high-quality films. I think my work ethic, positive attitude, and diverse experience is what truly sets me apart from others.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There have been so many proud moments in my career that it’s hard to pick just one. I would say one that stands out is the moment we won not one, but two awards at the 2016 Dances With Films Festival here in L.A.

Our film, Killer Friends, (which I produced and co-directed with my amazing friend Zach Noe Towers) won both audience award and Best of Fest. We were shocked and so proud of the film and our team!
