Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Kang, Darshan Bagivalu and Sacha Cosentino.
Tim has been running a family-owned restaurant out of Burbank, which like so many others had taken a hit during COVID. Late one night while burning the midnight oil with his roommate Darshan (an entrepreneur and avid meal prep service subscriber), they discussed how small restaurants and how people consume meals will have to adapt in this new climate. They both came to realize that local restaurants were being left out of this growing industry. And if brought together, could actually provide a variety of meals for anyone. By the end of the night, Meal Kit was founded as a service to offer a convenient weekly delivery service for conscious consumers who love to support small and local businesses.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, with any start-up, there are minor bumps in the road, but as of now, we haven’t experienced any honest struggle. We’ve been motivated by the excitement of our customers and partners throughout our journey. Like any business, we anticipate obstacles as the company continues to grow, however, our team is excited to learn and evolve along the way.
Meal Kit – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Meal Kit is one of the first weekly delivery services to involve mom & pop restaurants and artisanal businesses. We take pride in offering a variety of options that caters to any personality. Our menu features ready-made meals, DIY meals, and essential pantry items to satisfy any craving. Our mission is to build a convenient service to inspire consumers to consciously support local businesses and enjoy delicious food in the process.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Friends and family provide for an amazing support system and when starting a business, loyally sign-up as your first customers. I think our proudest moment comes from when we began dropping off orders for customers around the city that found us on their own. From creating this concept to receiving positive consumer feedback, it was a real full-circle moment.
