Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Hare.
Tim, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my career in music at a young age playing Bass in touring rock bands at 18/19 years old up until I entered the Berklee College of Music at age 24 where I graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2011. After graduation, I was kicking around Boston bartending most nights when a friend emailed me to see if I was willing to drop everything and work on the fall 2012 Wiz Khalifa tour running point on Warner Music Group’s VIP program ticketing program.
I flew out the next week and jumped on a few other tours after working for Mac Miller, Smashing Pumpkins, and Tom Petty & The Heart Breakers in 2013. After those tours ended, I began working directly for heritage rock music act Foreigner as Mick Jone’s Day to Day manager for a year.
As much as I enjoyed seeing the world and spending time on tour with those guys, I really missed creating music and always wanted to be a composer. A family connection introduced me to Sonic Librarian where I learned the ins and outs of the Production Music business and was able to compose for the library. I worked in the business for a few years before landing at Alibi in 2017. Alibi has been the perfect place for me as I have grown my knowledge of the business with more opportunities to compose. I was recently promoted to co-Vice President of Business Development as I have focused on generating new revenue streams and strategic partnerships when not composing.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is any road smooth? Haha. This is a great question, and there have been too many to count. The hardest part has been being patient with your own growth and realizing it takes time to learn, develop, and make an impact. I have tried to go in guns blazin’ and make sweeping changes and I have learned to take a nuanced approach and really build-out ideas and implementation. You can’t be afraid to fail or too scared to make big changes in your life either. It was a bit of a financial risk to change careers at 30 years old and go from touring/artist management where I was making a name for myself to an entry-level position in production music and while I’ve had some lean years and had to tighten the belt and the bootstraps I am in a place in my career that makes me very happy and very proud.
Please tell us about Alibi Music Library.
Alibi Music Library is one of if not the biggest independent production music library today. We provide background music and sound FX for media of all kinds; movie trailers/commercials/reality television, you name it. My role is focused on finding new ways our clients can license our music for their projects and identifying musical licensing issues within different industries and cultivating a way that Alibi can be the solution to those problems.
What I love most about Alibi is we’ve never been afraid of the future. We embrace technology and data and use it to help inform business development as well as how to better service our client. In an ever-changing digital landscape, we are committed to looking ahead to find solutions and be a better solution.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I don’t know if I have a favorite, but there is a lot I miss about being a kid! I miss jumping on my bike and riding to the movie theatre or the arcade to waste long summer days away with my friends.
