Has it been a smooth road?
Being an actor in Los Angles is inherently a struggle… you have to learn to love the rollercoaster ride… always be prepared for what’s thrown at you… success can come at the cost of relationships, friends and family… but the joy of creating a memorable character. Living and breathing within that character’s world for but a moment brings such pleasure and satisfaction. One of my most favorite roles was that of Sgt. Benny Ray Riddle USMC (ret) in Jerry Bruckheimer’s “Soldier of Fortune Inc” TV series. For two seasons, I got to bring Benny Ray to life and honor all of our military and our veterans through who he was and how I played him after 20 years, I still get fan mail regarding Benny Ray!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the GallantFew.org story. Tell us more about the business.
Having served in the military with the 3 rd US Infantry (The OldGuard) and with 2/75 Rangers I have always been proud of my service to our country. And after playing Benny Ray Riddle in “Soldier of Fortune Inc” and paying homage to our military, I was contacted my many service members and veterans to thank me for my portrayal of Benny Ray. I realized that for me it was important to give back to and honor those men and woman serving our country. In addition to being an actor and on the board of GallantFew, I also host “Grateful Nation”, an outdoor TV series that takes our veterans on adventures around the world. We’ve just completed our 10th season on the Outdoor Channel.
This will give you some insight into why I do what I do:
To our military, I was contacted my many service members and veterans to thank me for my portrayal of Benny Ray… I realized that for me it was important to give back to and honor those men and woman serving our country. In addition to being an actor, I also host “Grateful Nation”, an outdoor TV series that takes our veterans on adventures around the world. We’ve just completed our 10th season on the Outdoor Channel.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
As far as acting goes, the landscape for me will start to change regarding the characters I will be playing. I hope to still be offered characters that are compelling… that still move people… inspire people and pay homage to our veterans.
In regards to working with our veterans through GallantFew, our work will only just be starting… we as a country has been at war against terrorists since 2001… the debt owed to those who’ve sacrificed to keep us safe at home must be paid. And GallantFew stands ready.
