Meet Thomas Compagnon of La Buvette Wine Bistro in San Pedro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas Compagnon.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Thomas. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Born and raised in Lyon, France, I started working in the restaurant – hospitality industry at age 18.

First I started working in the South of France during the summer season, in the French Alps during the winter season. I moved to London for two years. Finally, I came to Los Angeles and started working at Trump National Golf Club, previously known as Ocean Trails Golf Club.

I was there for 20 years, as a Sommelier and Beverage Director. But I always wanted to open my own Bistro. I finally opened my own in the Spring of 2019 in Downtown San Pedro. It is named La Buvette. However, I may have to change the name to COMPAGNON Wine Bistro. COMPAGNON is my last name.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It appears that we have to change the name of the business, as required by a restaurant group from NYC.

Please tell us about La Buvette Wine Bistro.
It is a very authentic French Bistro with a very unique vibe. People have told us that they feel transported to France the minute they walk into the space. We serve a limited menu, yet we emphasize on the daily specials. So there is always something new for the regular patrons.

The wine selection is unique, as well as the decor.
