Meet The Wilderness Project Manager: Ryan Grayson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Grayson.

Ryan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After a stint in the 90’s playing Music in NYC when Brooklyn was still pleasantly sketchy, I went back to school.

History and Civic Engagement degrees led to a decade of Education, Non-Profit and Community Development work in the mid-west (KY) Then I pivoted into Stained Glass – of all things. Thus 2012 represents a return to creative cultural production and with that a new way of thinking. Shortly after I accepted an invitation to do some freelance writing for The Wilderness, a creative design production house in Brooklyn. And soon after my bags were packed. I settled in as a Production Manager for The Wilderness and worked with the two principles of the company every day absorbing – contributing – creating and learning the ropes of how live-action, and post production techniques translate into beautiful end results. We opened an L.A. office in September of 2015. Since then I worked with L.A. Guild, a design-build firm and here, I found a perfect role as Project Manager – finally synthesizing my skills in a great industry. I Love L.A. plus my dog Roscoe is a senior 15 yrs old and I consider this to be his warm climate retirement. He deserves it.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s not easy to coordinate four grown people moving from NY to L.A. especially with 4 dogs and an office full of production equipment and memories. But, lean and mean is the new normal so we got it done.

Have you ever felt like giving up?
No – despite hating every moment at the restaurant jobs I had during college. Somebody has to keep the ship right!

What advice do you wish to give to those thinking about pursuing a path similar to yours?
That’s a tough one. Network and a black coffee? But, remember that you are talented! You just have to believe it.

What are you looking forward to?
Helping others succeed. I know that’s hippy speak but it’s the most rewarding.
