Meet Tessa Markle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tessa Markle.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I moved out to LA from the Pittsburgh area about five years ago to pursue acting. I had always known that I wanted to act. As a kid, I pretty much grew up in my community theatre, The Geyer Performing Arts Center in Scottdale, PA. I did every show I possibly could for about a decade. I was also in my high school’s musicals every year at Geibel Catholic and went on to major in theatre at Washington and Jefferson College. After graduating, I did some semi-professional theatre around Pittsburgh and decided it was time to make the big move. Since being in LA, I’ve fallen in love with acting for the camera and filmmaking in general. I’m also the proud co-owner of Femme Regard Productions, a film production company that my partner Carolina Alvarez and I started about a year and a half ago.

I’m so grateful to be in a city of opportunity. I’ve gotten to study with some of the greatest teachers, film in amazing locations (including one of our own self-produced short films on the Warner Brothers’ lot!), and meet and work with amazingly talented people.

I’ve now gotten to act, do voiceover, write, edit, and produce. On top of that, Carolina and I started our own podcast on filmmaking called Femme Regard Podcast (available on all major platforms!) to share our experiences with other filmmakers and bring on knowledgable industry professional guests.

Please tell us about your art.
As a filmmaker, it is important for me to tell stories from the female perspective. A lot is changing in the world of female filmmaking, and I’m here to keep shaking it up! I’ve seen too many stories about women told by men that just don’t feel genuine and I think it’s important to change that. It is also important to me that women get more opportunity in front of and behind the camera. This is what my production company, Femme Regard, is all about.

As a podcaster, I want to inspire other “underdeveloped filmmakers” to shoot for the moon! I’ve met so many inspiring professionals that just never got discouraged and tried the unconventional and made it because of their determination. Entertainment is a difficult business, and if I can share my knowledge and inspire others, that’s what it’s all about.

As an actress, I love surprising people and really evoking emotion. The genres that I would really like to break into are period pieces and horror. Both are fantastic escapes for me as a viewer, and I would love to be a part of creating that.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
When I first moved out here, I didn’t have a lot of friends in LA. That all changed when I joined my first acting class, Inner Circle Theatre. I highly recommend for actors to take a class, not only for the education but also for the community. I have gone on to work with several classmates, and my circle has only grown!

Also, reach out to the people you admire. We’ve gotten great guests on our podcast and found awesome talent for our films just by taking a chance and contacting someone. Don’t ever be afraid because we all start somewhere and chances are, those people you admire used to be exactly where you are now.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
To see what I’ve done as an actress, check me out at my website, TessaMarkle.com. You can also follow me on Instagram and twitter @misstessalauren and facebook “Tessa Markle – Actress” for more updates.

To see what we’ve created with Femme Regard, check us out at our website, FemmeRegard.com. We share a lot of updates and snippets on our social media as well on Instagram @femmeregard, twitter @femme_regard, and Facebook “Femme Regard.”

To listen to our podcast, Femme Regard Podcast, find us on Apple Podcast, Spotify, Google Play, and Stitcher or listen directly from our production company website.

The biggest support is just actually viewing and listening. Every listen counts on the podcast and subscriptions, ratings, and comments on Apple get us far! Also, the more viewers we have of our short films from Femme Regard, the more support we have to reach out to when it comes time to crowdfund for the bigger projects! And of course, if you’re a filmmaker looking to hire an actress, I’m always interested!
