Meet Teresa Spencer of EquestriSafe in Northern

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Spencer.

Teresa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Originally I started with the idea of helping myself and friends during and because of equine evacuations. Visible identification on horses was basically nonexistent, so during wildfire emergencies and evacuations animals being removed from properties were at times difficult to reunite with their owners. A friend and I recognized a need for owners to have physical visible identification available during these emergencies.

We started by helping friends and now have grown to an international company. Our market has expanded as well to include breeding farms, boarding facilities, equine transporters among a few. We are continuing to grow our market in several different areas and look forward to more expansion.

Our core market however is still the backyard horse owner who needs and wants visible equine identification for their horses during evacuations. Owners have also found other uses for needing our products for identification such as pleasure trail rider, equestrian camping and hunting trips as well as those that participate in Horse Shows, barrel races and other equine activities.

Currently, we are traveling the United States while camp hosting at equestrian campgrounds and introducing our products to those throughout the Midwest, south and east coast.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Because very few people have ever heard of Equine Identification and our products were new to the equine world, the struggle has been and continues to be educating owners as to the variety of uses and more importantly, why they are needed.

I think it was between 2-3 years to start receiving orders from outside California. Our initial website was a challenge as well with trying to educate and sell new products; pricing was also an issue since there wasn’t anything similar available.

Education was key, so I began speaking at equine events, attending community events, clubs and organizations to explain our products, their uses and our story.

Please tell us about EquestriSafe, LLC.
The business is all about Customer Service; making sure customer’s needs are met. We adjust products, customize products, add products to our line and listen to what our customers are needing.

The company is about Equine Identification and Safety products. We are known primarily for the variety of equine identification products we offer, rider identification, equine first aid kits and our reflective items.

We are most proud that our items are made in America by us, we support several other women-owned small businesses and our outreach to community organizations in the Los Angeles area to provide reflective products that help riders be more visible in evening hours when riding. Our products have also been mentioned in several articles both online and in print by others who now recognize the need for visible identification on equines during evacuations and emergencies.

We have set ourselves apart because of our customer service, made in America and our ability to customize items. All EquestriSafe labeled products are made while traveling.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
The fact that my parents introduced me to horses means everything. My dad taught me how to ride, take care of the horses from head to toe, along with what it took for their best their health and well being.

Riding horses with friends throughout the Antelope Valley, attending the 4-H events at the Antelope Valley Fair with my horses and participating in the 4-H roundup during the same time.
