Meet Tatiyana Elias of Tatiyana Elias Makeup Artist in Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiyana Elias.

Tatiyana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started out as the artsy girl who would just play in makeup all day long, at 14 I started doing makeup on others and loving the feeling of how people felt once I was done with their glam session. As time went on, I knew what I wanted to do but my mother wanted me to become a dentist. I wanted to please my mom and make her dreams for me come true, so I decided I am going to volunteer at my dentist’s office. Long story short, I was to creative and to fidgety to be sitting down and looking into people’s mouths all day (I think all dentists are amazing for what they do, but I realized it wasn’t for me). After 15 hours of volunteering I broke the news to my mom that the path she wanted me to go in was not intended for my future, I wanted to be a cosmetologist. I finished homeschooling a couple months earlier than expected and decided I will go to cosmetology school. After I got my license, I started working in a salon and also decided I am just the type of person who isn’t so great with routine and I like to be my own boss. I then went to makeup school and also got certified, I knew I wanted a license and certification to back me up. So I decided to step into the freelance world, and that’s where it all started. I started working on photo shoots and now I am blessed to work with amazing brands!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
To be honest, it hasn’t been an easy road. At first I was going in with a blind eye, I didn’t realize how much networking goes into this job. I have been rejected numerous of times. Even though it made me grow thick skin you don’t know who you are dealing with. Sometimes people are having a bad day and decide to take out their emotions on you, as you go on you learn to not take it personal. There were also times were I went weeks and months without booking when I first started and that doesn’t help when you end up with two school loans. I have shed many tears because of all the struggles which don’t seem much since I am not going into many details but because I decided to change my thought process from feeling defeated to feeling courageous everything started to fall into place for me. I also have an amazing group of people who support me and keep me going which is always helpful.

Tatiyana Elias Makeup Artist – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Let me give you a little insight about what I do! I am a makeup artist and hairstylist who works on set, whether it is on commercials, photo shoots or up and coming celebrities. I am known for, and specialize in the natural, dewy makeup look. I am most proud of the two billboards I have worked on, which are on La Cienega and thankfully another billboard I worked on will be up soon! What sets me apart from others, are my goals and aspirations that I have towards my career, I am focused on showing people that being a makeup artist is more than just doing makeup.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me, is being satisfied with where you are now. Once you are satisfied that’s when you start to accomplish your goals. Success is a state of mind, that’s the conclusion I came up with. The journey on your way to accomplishing your goals is also success, every step of the way is a building stone. Once you recognize that and visualize where you want to be in the future, you’ll start to attract that lifestyle.
