Today we’d like to introduce you to Taryn Ferrer.
Hi Taryn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey as an entrepreneur began two weeks after I graduated from the University of Southern California. I had two months until my full-time job started, two weeks to find the money for a security deposit, and no money saved up to make it happen. #BrokeCollegeStudentVibes My first business was in direct sales and I worked my ass off to sell over $1200 so I could pay my security deposit. I fell in love with entrepreneurship at that exact moment. Once my full-time job started, my goal was to strictly use my business as a side hustle to bring in some extra money. However, that changed quickly once working 12-18 hours a week started to take a toll on my health. I have Sickle Cell Anemia and stress is one of the main causes of painful sickle cell crises that can lead to hospitalization. I would wake up some days unable to walk due to the pain and would have to stay home from work. Between that and the high demand of the holiday season, I decided that I needed my business to replace my income as soon as possible so I could be a full-time entrepreneur. I wanted to create a lifestyle of less stress on my body and more time to spend with friends/family. My focus and determination paid off and five months after that decision, I put in my two weeks and began my full-time entrepreneur journey at the age of 23.
The freedom was refreshing, yet my family and friends thought I was crazy for leaving a “secure job with great benefits.” I was determined to prove them wrong and be successful anyway so I continued to work hard to reach my goals. I experienced some success and built some confidence. I faced some big financial blocks six months after leaving my job. My sales started slowing down and I began withdrawing from my 401K to pay for rent & other bills. I was barely staying afloat for a while until a year later when I was in a terrible accident that totaled my car and tanked my finances. I spent the next three months in physical therapy and not able to hold many appointments. After I recovered, I put in even more hours believing that was what I needed to do for this business to take off. That’s when less than a year after the accident, I had my worst Sickle Cell Crisis in 5 years. Not only was I battling excruciating pain, I caught pneumonia as well. Once I was released from the hospital, I wasn’t able to stand for more than 5 minutes at a time for the next two months. During that period of recovery, I decided it was time to find a way to generate more passive income so that I was financially prepared to handle any future emergencies. That’s when I shifted my focus to real estate investing. I loved that I was able to increase my financial literacy while helping people become homeowners through the rent-to-own model. During this season, my business grew and I was bringing in more revenue than I had over the past two years.
At the same time, I was learning everything I could about improving my personal finances via budgeting, saving, credit, and investing. In addition to understanding the technical methods, I actively strengthened my money mindset. By building that financial consistency and discovering my money story, I saved $2000 in 2 months and paid off $10,000 in debt in one year. By 2019, friends were asking me for money advice because I genuinely loved talking about it. A friend presented me with a business opportunity to refer people to credit restoration and financial education tools. I loved the services myself and enjoyed seeing the results my customers were having. Through this experience, I realized how passionate I was about seeing women grow their money confidence and cash flow. In 2020, Money Honey LLC. was born. Now as the Founder & CEO, I get to use my experience of raising my credit score 250 points, paying off $25,000 in debt total, and creating cash flow through my investments to teach ambitious female CEOs how to go from rich to wealthy. I love seeing my clients realize that the way you handle money is similar to how you handle many other areas of your life from boundaries to what you value. In my almost nine years as an entrepreneur, I’ve had the pleasure of trying multiple business models and I’m thankful because they led me to the work that lights my soul on fire.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Dealing with Sickle Cell Anemia is a consistent battle as my energy or pain level can change from hour to hour each day. Car accident in 2015. Hospitalization due to pneumonia & Sickle Cell in 2016. Being sued for back tuition in 2016 after finding out that my Dad stopped paying my tuition when I was in school, having some months where I didn’t know how I was going to pay rent
As you know, we’re big fans of Money Honey LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I teach ambitious female CEOs how to go from rich to wealthy through mindset healing, healthy money habit development, and wealth growth strategies. I combine the practical techniques of personal finance with growth to step into abundance, manifestation, and transforming the way you see, experience, and handle money. I’m a financial coach who believes money is a resource to create the lifestyle of your dreams. I’m all about NOT sacrificing the fun in your life in order to meet financial goals because that creates a negative relationship with money. I am most proud of disrupting the boring, serious, one-size-fits-all approach to money. I offer 1 on 1 coaching, group programs, and self-study programs.
What matters most to you?
Creating a life I enjoy living everyday is most important to me. I spent so many years solely focused on work/my business and missed out on opportunities to deepen relationships and have exciting travel experiences. That defeated the purpose of the “freedom” of entrepreneurship. I love making an impact in my community and with the clients, I have the blessing of serving.
