Meet Tara Bre of BreLuxe Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Bre.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
While studying at the University of Central Florida, I began modeling professionally and that is where I unlocked my talent for make-up. Shortly after I began working at MAC Cosmetics, which is where I learned true techniques behind cosmetic application, ingredients within products and experience working on different skin types. After college, my parents did not agree with choosing the arts as my career and advised me to ‘Get a Real Job.’ So, I began a career in marketing in the insurance industry and began freelancing for modeling and makeup.

As a few friends were getting married and asked me to do their makeup that is what unlocked my passion for weddings. With weddings being on the weekends, I was able to excel in a professional career, learn business, marketing and sales while working on the weekends for wedding beauty. I always dreamed of having a team and creating wedding beauty experiences that had the client in mind. Early on, I tried to start a company with a friend, yet we did not get too far, so I started on my own as Tara Bre Artistry.

After a few years in Orlando, I decided to move to Los Angeles to continue and expand my talents. In 2010, I moved to Los Angeles with no family or friends, just the dream to create that team I always dreamed of. BreLuxe Beauty was born shortly after and the dream started to become a reality. It has been a long journey, yet I have to say I have been very blessed. Our BreLuxe team consists of many that started with me in those early years, some artists have moved away or moved on, but many have been showcasing their talents with us for years.

The commonality with our team is passion, each of us has a passion for weddings and making clients feel great! As a business owner, I have learned that I must change with the market and the client’s needs, that is why we customize each beauty experience for the client. Today, we have been part of over 500 weddings and special events. Our studio in is Burbank, yet we love to travel to our clients to give them an unmatched pampering experience. Now I can truly say, dreams became a reality and I love what I do and what we do as a team!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely not. The biggest struggles have been finding the right people to work with, people you can trust to be as committed to weddings as you are. Weddings and Special Events are unique, the show must always go on, so having the right team is crucial. The other struggle is finding the right clients, knowing which clients fit you, your team and your business. At first, many take all the jobs that they can get, as I did, yet over time I realized that was not the best strategy.

Last, moving across the country to expand your talents was the hardest decision I made, leaving all that you know to live the dream. It got lonely and Hollywood is full of fake friends, so that was the hardest. And dating, that was even harder! So finding a stable personal life was very challenging at the beginning.

We’d love to hear more about your business.

What were you like growing up?
Believe it or not, I was a ‘Tom Boy’ growing up. I have two older brothers, so I took after them more. I was very academically smart and that was my main focus, along with electronic music, tennis and breakdancing.

I loved hanging out with the guys and doing guy stuff more that girl stuff. In fact in school, I had a few girlfriends, give me a makeover! They dressed me in more girly clothes and slowly I embraced being a girl. In college, my girl side really started to prevail, most likely due to modeling and glamming.
