Meet Tammy Warren of Warren PR & Consulting in Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy Warren.

Tammy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Before starting my PR career, I was the Entertainment Editor at Upscale Magazine in Atlanta, GA. I received a call one day from LaFace Records (founded by Antonio “LA” Reid and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds) to interview for a publicity position. Although I loved my job at Upscale, I was up for the challenge and the opportunity LaFace was offering me. I am so grateful to my friend and old boss Lorraine Robertson for showing me the ropes into the PR world. Accepting the job at LaFace was one of the best decisions of my life. After LaFace, I journeyed to Los Angeles on a mission to work for Earvin “Magic” Johnson. I loved what he was doing in the communities around the world through the Magic Johnson Foundation (MJF), and I wanted to be a part of that. After much persistence and patience. I was able to work as an independent contractor for MJF on their “A Midsummer Night’s Magic” weekend for two years before I was hired full-time as his Director of Publicity. I stayed in-house for 8 1/2 years before starting my own company, Warren PR & Consulting.

I am very grateful to Mr. Johnson, LA Reid and Babyface for taking a chance on me.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, but not necessarily a bumpy one. One of my biggest challenges has been trusting myself and believing in my capabilities as an award-winning PR Executive. Also, experiencing the labor pains of starting my own company and trying to figure out a lot of things on my own. I discovered who my real friends and colleagues were. It was a grueling discovery, but it was the best eye-opener I needed to push forward in this new space.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Warren PR & Consulting is a boutique public relations agency specializing in sports, entertainment, non-profit, event and corporate PR with a special focus on building brands by aligning remarkable talent with credible brands across the country. Warren PR & Consulting believes in the dreams of their clients by working hard and smart to make those dreams come true through innovative and strategic thinking. Everybody has a story to tell … what’s YOURS?

I am most proud of the clients I’ve been able to work with and being able to be a first for them in terms of a first television appearance, written article or nomination. Helping them tell their stories fills me with so much joy. I’m a truth-teller, so that may set me apart from others, especially being in the entertainment industry. People like the illusion, I like the truth. It can only help someone grow and prosper.

What were you like growing up?
I was a very energetic and talkative child. I was very curious and creative. I loved to scrapbook and write and write and write. I was obsessed with magazines (still am). I was fascinated with all things entertainment, and I never missed an awards ceremony. My favorite season spans from my birthday in December through Oscar weekend. I also loved fashion (still do) and playing in my mom’s closet. I remember her buying me my first pair of heels at age 9. They were these knee-high black leather boots with a little block heel. I felt so grown up when I wore them.

Growing up in Detroit, the home of Motown, music was constantly playing in our household. I can listen to anything. My grandfather introduced me to country music at a young age, and I’ve held on to that sound and those memories of riding in the car with him through the city. Family was and still is everything. I had such a great childhood. It was full of so much love and laughter.
