Meet Suzanne Lanza of Blue Ladybug Social

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzanne Lanza.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
How did Blue Ladybug start? Well, it sort of started by accident. I modeled and acted from a long time and when my daughter was born I took a few years off to just be a mom. When she started kindergarten, I started to get a bit restless. And coincidentally a friend was starting a new company, Blisshaus, and asked me to help with her social media. So, I did that. And it was fun and something I could do while my daughter was at school. Then I started doing it for another friend, TaylorMillerHSD, a home staging company. I was then introduced to Jannis Swerman, who runs a PR company for chefs, restaurants, and wineries. Jannis was looking for someone to help handle the social media for her clients. She has some really heavy hitters in the restaurant world and for some reason she took a chance on me and I’ve been working steadily ever since. I really couldn’t have done it without her. She had a lot of faith in me and has taught me so much.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. There have definitely been a few bumps. As I said Jannis has some heavy hitters and while I had been doing social media for several people when I started with her, I was still pretty green. Luckily she was very patient and allowed me a few missteps.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I handle the social media presence of businesses and individuals. I guess I sort of specialize in restaurants, chefs and wineries but I have other clients as well .I just started working with Potion Handmade, this great skincare line and the Hi Rise Network, which is sort of a LinkedIn meets Facebook for people who work in office buildings. I offer full service, so depending on the client, I can just things up and get you started, manage things day to day, take photographs, create content. I think what sets Blue Ladybug apart is that I am very hands on. Also I have a really good eye. Maybe because I had a career in the fashion industry for so long and I learned a lot about photography. What am I most proud of? Hmm. I’m proud that I was able to create a business that allows me to work around being a mom. It’s really hard to do both and I’ve somehow managed to create a business that I can, sort of, do both. And now I am signed with Iconic Focus Models so there are modeling gigs in the mix too. The great thing about doing social media is as long as I have my phone and decent Wi-Fi, I’m good to go! I’m also really like that Blue Ladybug has such an eclectic client list. I have models, chefs, restaurants, a few authors, photographers. Oh, and I am really proud that I get so many referrals. All my clients refer other clients, so I guess I must be doing something right.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think LA is the perfect place for my business! I’ve started doing some consulting work with people who don’t necessarily what to hire someone to take over their social media but need help. I sort of guide them along. For someone starting out I would say, study! Learn as much as you can. Social media can be the kind of thing that everyone thinks they can do, and I guess everyone can, but not everyone does it well. So if you want to do it, take classes, do research. There is always more to learn. And if you don’t know something, you can literally google anything.
