Meet Steve Hodge and Champ Baginski of Breakthrough Sports

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Hodge and Champ Baginski.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Steve and Champ. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We met through our former employer and immediately clicked. Our ideas of advancing youth basketball through an array clearly flushed and detailed programs became the foundation of what would soon become Breakthrough Sports.

We paralleled on numerous fronts.
– 80’s babies
– Transplants (Steve from Connecticut/Champ from Kansas)
– 2 Children similar in age

A ton of shared sensibilities.

About a year ago, we left said employer and decided to explore our idea. We wanted to build our company from the ground up, use our combined 20 plus years of experience. Champ, with youth sports and marketing and Steve with basketball coaching, training and playing professionally.

We drew from our experience, organized ourselves, utilized our network, invested a couple of bucks and launched. We had the guts to bet on ourselves.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. We are in a constant state of “troubleshooting”. We never know where our next problem is coming from and we’re never at a loss for issues.

– We started with money out of our own pockets (no capital/no investors)
– Both have young children and families hanging in the balance
– Established business entities were visibly uncomfortable with our startup
– We knew we had a great product but weren’t certain how we would be received

Please tell us about Breakthrough Sports LLC.
We are a youth sports company focused on providing quality programming for youth of all skill levels. We started with basketball and are expanding into:
– Baseball
– Football
– Swimming
– ESports

I believe we’re known for our quality and attention to the families we serve. We’re proud that we can stand on these morals and that the very people were serve are the people who root for us. That’s not always the case… What sets us apart is that we provide a service that can be easily measured and improves the lives (not matter how small of an impact) of children and families.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
We’re both sports junkies and we can draw from host of incredible sports moments just as other sports junkies can.
