Meet Stephanie Lemus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Lemus.

Stephanie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up, I had always been drawn to art in all forms. I started to focus more on photography because it was the only thing that calmed me down from my anxiety and it was an escape for me. I was able to be creative and I was able to share my art with others. After working in education, I decided to go back to school and I received my Bachelor’s degree in Art, specializing in Photography. This degree was important to me because I was doing something I was really passionate about, despite people saying it was a waste of time and that nothing would come of it. Because of college, I was able to curate an art exhibition for Mujerxs of the Future at Toolbox LA featuring all female artists. I’ve been fortunate that my work has been in galleries in major cities like Seattle, Portland, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Most of my work consists of portraits, events and music photography.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think I dealt with a lot of the same struggles that most artists face when they tell people they’re pursuing art: people tell you that you shouldn’t. That was hard for me to hear at first because I was doing what fulfilled me, but I learned to let those comments go. People will judge you no matter what, so it’s important to always do what makes you happy.

Stephanie Lemus Photography – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I shoot a lot of portraits, events and music photography. I’m proud that people trust me enough to let me photograph them. What sets me apart from others is that I’m able to capture moments that tell a story no matter what setting I’m in. I take a lot of pride in my work and I’m always trying to get better and learn as much as I possibly can. I love shooting events and music because I enjoy seeing the reactions from my clients after they receive the photos.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define my success by being able to work in my chosen field and looking forward to working everyday. I feel so lucky that I’m able to do what I enjoy and that I’m able to be creative everyday. I truly believe that when you’re happy, that’s the ultimate marker for success.
