Meet Stephanie Albao of Intuitive Images Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Albao.

Stephanie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my photo journey as a new mom, obsessed with taking photos of my newborn. As soon as I got that DSLR in my hands in 2008, I knew it was something I had to do. Being a Southern California native, Disneyland was my backyard, so I spent a lot of my early days walking around Disneyland, finding new and interesting things to photograph. I quickly became obsessed with learning everything possible about the technical side of photography, so I used my friends as willing models, eventually grew my hobby into a business, and that newborn I started with is now 9 years old. I also photograph dancers quite a bit as well, and it’s the most inspiring to me. Dancers know how to create an image, and I can tap into the rhythm that they exhibit and make something with movement. Besides portraits, I’ve photographed weddings from Cancun to Tuscany to the Caribbean, and I have a hardcore family fan base that depends on me every single year for the best holiday card. No seriously, some of them have holiday card competitions. (And I still shoot sessions in Disneyland!)

Has it been a smooth road?
Being a working mom isn’t easy for anyone, especially with three kids, and I think I’m still trying to find that mythical “daily balance” of work and home life. When you run your own business, it can be tough to keep things running when there are family emergencies, or health issues.

Luckily, I have a super loyal and incredibly kind client base that has been flexible and understanding in that with my company, you’re getting me. Photography is so personal, I think that most of my clients understand that I’m human, too. And that’s okay with them.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Intuitive Images Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Intuitive Images Photography specializes in wedding and portrait photography. I think I’m known for photos that make you feel something. I try really hard to not “pose” people, to just let kids be kids, let couples get lost in their own world, and not interfere with the moment. Oh! And warm light. I have a warm light addiction.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Los Angeles is the best and we totally take it for granted. I’m constantly reminded about how other photographers across the country have to deal with snow, rain, extreme heat. Our weather lets us work outside nearly every single day of the year! Besides the heavenly weather, L.A. is home. It’s so diverse, has so many textures and vibes. It makes the job of creating interesting, visually appealing images so ridiculously easy. That cliché of going skiing in the morning and surfing in the afternoon is cheesy but true. PLUS, the Mexican food. If we can just figure out this traffic thing, we’ll have it all.
