Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas Wei.
Thomas, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I started college, a friend of mine really got into photography so I decided to get a camera as well. I started off with a Canon 60D taking pictures of anything and everything I could get my hands on. As the years flew by, I become more fascinated with photography and wanted to continue to develop my skills as a photographer. I took pictures of friends, pictures of events, pictures of whatever I could. Eventually, I upgraded my gear and continued to take portraits of people as well as documented my traveling. As I begin to take photography more seriously I am continuing to update my portfolio daily and am currently building my website. If anyone is interested in collaborating with me I am open to that.
Has it been a smooth road?
Going to school full time, working and continuing to be immersed in photography has been challenging. It’s really hard to manage my time as sometimes I feel like I never have the time to take pictures. I am either in school, working, or catching up on lost sleep. I try to set aside some time once in a while to go out and shoot. Good glass is expensive, so saving up for different pieces of my arsenal has been tough.
Have you ever wanted to stop doing what you do and just start over?
A lot of times I feel like I’ve hit a wall in my creativity but I realize that I just need a break from photography . A few days off out of the week will allow me to get my creative juices flowing. Once I get some time off and I’m ready, I just pack my bags and set off on my next adventure.
Let’s change gears – is there any advice you’d like to give?
Don’t give up ! You will run into a lot of challenges throughout your photography career but stay dedicated and committed . It may be creativity walls , long days of editing photos or sometimes just exhaustion, but It will all be worth it in the end once you get that shot you’ve been chasing. Just go out there and keep on shooting.
What are you most excited about these days?
I am most excited about the new innovations in photography. Especially with the new canon 5d mark iv. I recently purchased a professional printer so I will be printing my own photos instead of sending to the lab. I am looking forward to the new adventures and great shots that I will continue to obtain.
