Meet Shon Michaux-Simon of Shon Simon Co in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shon Michaux-Simon.

Shon is the Owner and CEO of Shon Simon Co., a rising, LA-based, independent clothing manufacturing company that’s worked on projects for brands such as Guess Jeans, JLO, J Balvin and Normani.

Like many business owners, when the Covid-19 pandemic began, Shon became uncertain how her newly launched business would survive. Would she have to let go of members of her hardworking staff? Would she have to close down the business she worked so hard to build?

Then, she had an idea. Why not transition into manufacturing masks for families to stay safe during the pandemic? Using modal– a soft, smooth, semi-synthetic fabric made from wood pulp, Shon’s masks are washable, reusable, eco-friendly, anti-bacterial, breathable, and anti-odor. They are fashionable and come in a variety of colors (including various shades of nude) and the price point is amazing!

Needless to say, Shon’s venture into manufacturing masks has been successful, and today Shon Simon Co. manufactures more than 15k masks a day and has partnered with major companies such as Williams, Chic Fil A, UPS, McDonald’s, and Amazon to name a few, to manufacture masks for their team members. As a Black woman with a newly launched company, this has been a phenomenal accomplishment for Shon, despite the circumstances of how it all came into fruition.

Shon’s “mask ministry” didn’t stop at major brand partnerships, however. Shon wanted to use her success to give back. Not only is Shon a leading manufacturer of face masks, but, she also offers an affordable wholesale program for her masks, so that displaced workers and entrepreneurs can resell her masks for a profit while working from home. To give back even further, Shon also regularly gives a portion of the proceeds from her mask sales to families who need assistance with their bills as they cope during the pandemic.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No. I opened my manufacturing company at the height of the pandemic. I had already opened up a previous business in fashion with a business partner that didn’t work out after retiring from her work as a Celebrity Make Up Artist. The pandemic initially posed a major threat to the success of her business.

Shon Simon Co – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I think success is me being put in the position to help others. Whether it’s being able to help people pay some of their bills or being an inspiration to them that they can be successful as business owners, I want people to know that if I can do it, they can too. My definition of success is being able to pay it forward, often.
