Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelley Meche’tte.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Shelley. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I created The PowHERful Woman, after much soul searching as to how I could better pour life into the women that I met daily. When I looked around, I saw a lot of disrespect towards women in our society; among each other, in partner relationships, on television and it disturbed me. There had once been a time, when women were respected by men and they valued themselves, but it seemed to me that…that “time” was vanishing.
I witnessed women remained in unhealthy relationships, because they had no one to help cultivate their self-esteem as a young girl. All these things broke my heart; mainly because “I” had been that women who at one time didn’t know her worth…who at one point in life undervalued her greatness. I wanted to provide an avenue by which I could encourage and empower all women to find their voice and walk in their Power!
I started doing annual conferences for women to network with other like-minded women, to gain personal and professional knowledge, to be re-rejuvenated and have a place where they could be reminded of what it feels like to love themselves!
Since starting The PowHERful Woman, our organization has provided workshops on financial awareness, goal setting, vision strategizing and more. Now, we are ready to Legacy build and show our women how to impart their wisdom onto the next generation.
We’re changing the trajectory of how women feel and think about themselves. We’re changing one woman at a time, to positively impact our world.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I WISH the road was smooth. There are many bumps, hurdles, scrapes…and bruises along the way. One of the main things I struggled with was how to get women to see my heart and therefore …COME to my conferences (which in my opinion was a place to begin healing if needed). I didn’t truly understand my audience at first or how to market to them.
Finances were another huge challenge. We didn’t have the budget to hire many Speakers, so we spent a lot of time searching for volunteer Speakers and entrepreneurs willing to provide in-kind donations to help us make our ladies feel extra special. When planning an event, it usually never goes smoothly.
In the beginning, our paperwork was denied MORE than once. I remember telling God, “if it doesn’t go through this time…I will just take it as a sign that this isn’t for me”. That was the time we were approved.
Many people host conferences and events surrounding Women’s Empowerment, so one of the challenges was being able to differentiate from all the other amazing empowerment events available to women.
We want to improve every year, so we must also be willing to change and grow. We do not want our conferences and workshops to become mundane. We want our women to always experience a personal challenge so that they continue to improve themselves in every area of life.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the The PowHERful Woman story. Tell us more about the business.
The PowHERful Woman Organization is a 501c3 dedicated to uplifting, empowering and inspiring women from all walks of life, encouraging them to discover and live their lives on…PURPOSE. Through annual conferences and intimate, success-building workshops we offer women the opportunity to walk in personal powHER and growth.
Women are able to empower themselves through the knowledge of goal setting, financial literacy, legacy building and more. We specialize in hosting life-producing conferences, which is where many women will discover who they are and who they were created to be.
I smile most when I run into women who tell me how our conference or one of our workshops has propelled them into their purpose. I am most proud of our love for the women whom we serve. I care about each woman that comes through our doors and desire to make them feel “seen”. Our organization believes that when you find what you were created for…that is when you truly begin to live.
We don’t stop at conferences…we go beyond, to help women identify areas within that may have died…and show them how to live again.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in PURPOSE…and purpose is given by God. Believing that I have been PURPOSED to love women, build women and help them discover who God has called them to be, keeps me moving forward…when I’m ready to quit. People are depending on me to walk in my calling so that they in turn will be able to walk in theirs.
