Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaun Robinson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I spent 16 years as the host and correspondent for the entertainment news show Access Hollywood. Before I began my national career, I built my resume in local news. I started in my hometown Detroit, Michigan at an independent television station learning how to write, report, edit and produce. From there, I was a reporter/anchor at the CBS affiliate in Flint, Michigan.
Then, I was hired as a medical reporter for the ABC station in Milwaukee and soon started hosting a talk show called ‘Milwaukee’s Talking’ and anchoring the weekend news. From there, I went to Austin, Texas, working at the CBS-station, and then on to Miami where I was the morning anchor/reporter for the Fox-affiliate. After being there for two years, Access Hollywood saw a tape of mine and flew me out for an interview. The rest is history.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Good things do not come easy! There were many times along the way when my journey was hit with bumps in the road. I had well-meaning colleagues who told me that my dreams were too big, that there weren’t that many “slots” for African American women. I also had a news director tell me that I wouldn’t make it in TV. I had to tune out the naysayers.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Most people know me from being the host of Access Hollywood and the host of the ’90 Day Fiance’ Tell All Reunion shows. I’ve done a lot of hosting in my career, in addition to acting in television and movies. I am most proud of my entire body of work – the fact that I never gave up. The one trait that will set anyone apart is “perseverance”.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
My biggest project now is my foundation – the S.H.A.U.N. Foundation for Girls. We support underserved and underrepresented girls in the areas of (S)TEM, (H)EALTH, (A)RTS, (U)NITY, and (N)EIGHBORHOODS. We invite anyone to support our mission by going to our website: shaunfoundationforgirls.org.
