Meet Chaz Alvarez of Shampoo Papi in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chaz Alvarez.

Chaz, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been through many storms in my life. What brought me to Shampoo Papi was realizing that I no longer wanted to work for anyone anymore. Especially not working with people who were homophobic and mentally abusive. I couldn’t stand to be apart of a business or corporation that allowed harassment, bullying and scare tactics. I finally decided that I wanted to stand for something and be the creator of my own destiny and one day provide people opportunities in the workforce that they could be proud of. I no longer wanted to sell my time for a discounted price.

After failing school, dropping out, and quitting my job I decided to go into business for myself. I was in the worst place of my life thus far, I felt like a total failure. I hated who I was. I sat in misery for months on the couch watching my fiancé work double the time to take care of both of us. If there was a definition of empty it would be me. My journey all began with me detailing my own car own and showcasing it via Instagram. I received positive feedback with many people wanting to know who detailed my car when I responded back to multiple inquiries that I was the one who detailed my own car I knew at that point I could turn this into a business. Since building my brand, my business and social media videos have reached supported thought out the United States and countries such as New Mexico, Dubai, France, Australia, France and London.

Being an entrepreneur is incredibly rewarding, but what’s the most important piece of it is owning your own time.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been easy at all. After having to quit my job while being in the middle of paying for a wedding has been extremely challenging. This phase of my life and having to push though it has been tough. I have had every off against me. I was placed in a medical induced coma, intubated with tubes down my throat, on life support and paralyzed from the waist down. I seized multiple times throughout the night in a hospital bed where I laid trapped in my own body. Having to learn how to speak, and walk without a cane because of the traumatic injuries I sustained I managed to pull through and make something of myself. Nothing about my life has been smooth, but Shampoo Papi gave me something to live for. My business saved my life.

Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about your work?
I detail cars and I clean houses. I’m mostly known for my entertaining videos that spread like wildfire on social media. I meet my clients at local self-service car washes or on their driveways to detail their cars. In the midst of detailing their cars I usually find some of the most horrific things in there lol (which majority of my followers enjoy) People view shampoo papi as the modern “Pimp My Ride” I take people’s cars from dirt to magic within a 4 hour period. During this time myself and clients enjoy laughing, blasting music, dancing and making memorable videos. People know me and address me as Shampoo Mutha Fu*€%!< Papi. People from all over the world have been inspired by my worth ethic and my ambition to be unapologetic in my entrepreneurship. I’m so proud of my brand, as I have been recognized by one of the biggest entrepreneurs in the world, Daymond John. The star of ABCs Shark Tank.

What sets me apart with automobile detailing is that I bring entertainment to something that was once so boring. Today, you go to a car wash and drop your car off without any entertainment other than your phone. With me, my clients LOVE the shampoo papi experience, it’s not everyday people sit for 3-4 hours with their car detailer. I add such a value to the experience that many people look forward to. Is our city a good place to do what you do?
LA is most definitely the place for my business. With the amount of classic to modern high-end cars in need of a primary detailer, my business would thrive in the streets of LA. I have many supporters in LA and once my Shampoo Papi Tour kicks off I will be circling the LA area to detail my client’s cars and provide the next level shampoo papi experience.

For anyone who is just starting out, studying your industry and focus on your WHY. Not you’re how. Have fun with your business, the second you stop having fun it becomes work. Work is boring. I thoroughly enjoy waking up every day doing what I do. I can do this for the rest of my life. If your business whether small or large doesn’t make you feel this way, it’s time for a change.
