Meet Shaiann Hogan of Shai’s World

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaiann Hogan.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Beauty brings me great joy and I love everything about it. One day, I decided to play in my moms makeup and create a tutorial on my I-Touch. My mom, who does random checks came across my video and was highly upset. She watched it several times after cooling off and saw my passion and desire for beauty. Later, she began to nurture my passion with the tools needed to propel. Soon I learned how to create my own custom nail polish and believed that I could turn this into an empire on something I loved and months later, Shai’s World was born.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As an adult business has lots of twists and turns with challenges along the way. So, imagine being a child? Time Management has been a huge struggle for me as I run the business. Prioritizing my life is a lil complicated as I have to manage my social life, school, extra-curricular activities and business. However, I have learned to push through all challenges without giving up as the rewards will come later.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Shai’s World story. Tell us more about the business.
Shai’s World is an indie nail polish brand. The business was launched in 2014 when I was 10 years old. I wanted to create a fresh approach to the beauty industry by introducing a vegan and cruelty-free nail polish. Shai’s World is free from five harmful chemicals to include formaldehyde, formaldehyde resins, camphor, toluene, nor dibutyl phthalate without sacrificing quality or performance. Our polishes come in a wide range of shades to choose from to fit your personality and /or style.

I’m most proud about the many accomplishments the I have had along the way. Since launching my business, I have been seen on The Real TV show, Harry TV and in Teen Boss Magazine. I have received the 2016 NAACP Women in Spotlight “Young Entrepreneur” of the year award, have placed 2nd in the NFTE Urban League Biz Camp for Youth (2017), and received “Her Eyes Matter” Black Business Women Rock Award (2017).

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe “luck” hasn’t played a role in the life of the business. Instead, being consistent and working hard has.

However, there are moments where I question why I started but instead, I keep pushing through.
