Meet Sarah Wilson of Chansaerae Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Wilson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sarah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve had a love of interior design for as long as I can remember. After a 10-year career in IT I returned to school in 2013. I attended Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in LA and received an AA, Interior Design, Professional Designation.

I opened by business shortly after graduation, March 2015. My first client was in June of 2105 with a kitchen remodel and I’ve been working on spaces for clients ever since then.

I’ve worked really hard on my visibility and also getting referral from old clients. I love what I do and I love working with people to transform their houses into homes.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. I had to learn how to effectively market myself (still learning). I started with 0 funding so it’s been a struggle to operate in the black some months. It’s also been difficult to keep my pipeline full.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Chansaerae Designs – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I do residential Interior Design. I can help transform a room or a whole home. I specialize in working with busy professionals who understand the value of delegating projects to those who are best equipped to handle it. I spent 10 years relying on individuals to help maintain my home, get my son to and from school and make sure we were fed. I love the feeling of coming home and just enjoying being there. I want to offer that same service on an Interior Design front.

I’m most proud that I’m fulfilling my dream of being an Interior Designer. I’m proud that clients can confidently refer me to their friends and colleagues.

Because my Mom and Uncle had an Upholstery shop on St. Croix, USVI I literally grew up around this industry. But also, I spent 10+ years in corporate American and I’m experienced with the unique pressures faced where work/life balance is concerned. I speak that language and understand the demands placed on the person who the task has been delegated to. I’m used to project management and to using repeatable process to obtain success.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the availability of everything. If I’m looking for a unique piece there are artisans available to procure or create it.

Congestion would be my least favorite thing. Too much traffic and not enough free parking. That’s rough.
