Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Hamilton.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up in Webster, New York, I spent a lot of time creative writing, which led to me acting and bringing those stories and characters to life. On my eighth birthday, I received a camera. I loved photography, but finding the movie option brought my storytelling to a new level. Being able to create little movies was incredibly inspiring.
Throughout much of middle school and high school, I continued to write, act, and direct/create many film projects with my family and friends. Passions blended and intensified with every project. While the move from an entire realm I knew and loved dearly was the most emotional, I found infinite opportunities and potential in L.A. at Loyola Marymount University as a film and television production major. Since then, I have been able to create, collaborate, and experience so many dreams are coming true on a regular basis. It’s been an absolutely incredible journey.
As a senior, I am presently finalizing my senior thesis short film, DREAMCATCHER, and starting up a second season of an original web series I started last summer, LA MERMAIDS. I’m finalizing a novel, photography book, and kickstarting my acting career. Dreams really do come true, and I’m incredibly excited for the future!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are three major challenges that stand out to me with my life’s journey so far.
One has been overcoming the emotional transition between my entire childhood in New York and moving to L.A. for college. I knew that everything was going to change and it not only terrified me to leave a past I knew and loved but also admit that to family and friends over and over again. Once I got here, I adjusted to this amazing (and very different) life, but I still feel somewhat impartial in many places. A part of me is always partially somewhere else.
Another challenge has been through feeling impartial just in general. I have always been passionate about so much. I wasn’t just a writer, actress, filmmaker or artist… I wanted to be involved with it all. In high school, I felt as if I was supposed to find the group/clique, but I ended up being between several and impartial to them all. It was through creating short films with my friends that I found the beauty of being unique and bringing others together.
Yet, within life and every part of it, my greatest challenge has been overcoming fear. I suppose we all fear, but as an avid overthinker, I find that I have spent much of my life worrying about what other people think and letting those interpretations lead my following choices and actions. I’m presently working on being more truthful to myself, even more, optimistic than I usually am, trusting my gut and intuition more, and being free of fearing the unknown.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I am a dreamer, content creator, and storyteller of many forms. I authored two young adult fiction novels (THE ENCHANTRESS and THE LIES WE TELL), and a third is in the works.
I’m a senior film and television production major student at Loyola Marymount University and finalizing my senior thesis short film, DREAMCATCHER, and beginning pre-production of the second season of the original web series, LA MERMAIDS. I have been creating weekly YouTube videos (youtube.com/sarahfhamilton) to showcase and document my life online.
I’m also an actress, presently progressing my acting career. I do a lot, and I make a lot happen. In doing so, I aspire to inspire others to follow their dreams unapologetically. My unique ability to do a lot through creating and collaborating helps not only myself but also others reach their dreams.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I have too many favorite memories from childhood to simply choose one! My childhood was absolutely amazing. I spent a ton of time with my family having fun, exploring, and creating art. I read a lot and really loved the power of stories.
I remember going to the library all of the time with my family and picking out a ton of books to be read before bed. I remember having art stations set up in the kitchen and swapping between painting, coloring, drawing, and clay.
I remember laughing, smiling, and having a total blast with anything and everything. In fact, I’m smiling now as I think back. Those were simpler times that ignited the fire for my creativity and passions.
