Meet Sarah Coplen of Truly Fancy Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Coplen.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sarah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a hopeless romantic and have been head over heels in love with weddings since I was a girl. This initially led me down the path of fashion design to design wedding gowns. After picking up degrees in Apparel Merchandising and Costume Design from Indiana University I headed out to sunny California for a fashion design degree from FIDM. The fashion industry and I had a brief love affair but it wasn’t until I began helping friends with the design and flowers for their weddings that I found my true calling in event planning and floral design! My mother is a wedding coordinator so you’d think I would have seen this coming.

I have been in business since 2012. I have a small studio in downtown LA where we create all of the floral arrangements for our weddings and an amazing team that is just as passionate as I am about weddings!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting your own company is generally a struggle but it is a labor of love. I was really hustling to get my company off the ground in the beginning and there were a lot of all-nighters but I feel like that hasn’t really stopped. Each time I reach a new goal there are more that I want to reach in front of me!

I had a baby in June and trying to figure out how to take a “maternity leave” while still taking care of my clients was challenging. I think it really helped me to grow though because if forced me to delegate and trust my team.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Truly Fancy Events – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Truly Fancy Events creates handcrafted and innovative weddings while maintaining a beautiful sense of tradition. We offer day-of coordination, full event planning, and floral design. Truly Fancy is located in Southern California but we love to travel. We are known for our romantic and natural floral arrangements and for our ability to stay calm during the most hectic events. This quote best describes our mentality on a wedding day: “Be like a duck. Calm on the surface, but always paddling like the dickens underneath” We are most proud of our relationships with our clients. We genuinely love our clients and go above and beyond to make sure their wedding day is everything that they dreamed it would be.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the future, I hope to grow my team! We will perhaps move into a larger studio in the near future as well.
