Meet Sara Nicely

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Nicely.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was in love with art and drawing as a kid and throughout high school and I knew I wanted to study something art-related. I attended the University of Florida and changed my major quite a few times (Interior Design, Early Childhood Education, Illustration) before discovering Graphic Design. After graduating with a degree in design, I bounced around the country to find my way (San Francisco, Atlanta, St. Pete, Fl, and now finally, Los Angeles!) I worked for some time as an Art Director in advertising, and then moved on to work for a branding firm where I focused primarily on restaurant identity systems. I’ve been freelancing now for 3 years and I specialize in branding and illustration. I’m so grateful for the windy little path that has led to me my dream job of creating art and design out of my home in Silver Lake.

Please tell us about your art.
I focus on illustration, identities and branding. I’m inspired by nature, storytelling, characters, memories and the sea. My work is clean and bright with a touch of whimsy. I strive to create delightful and inspiring worlds to help tell stories.

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
My advice is to work on what drives you and gives your life! Even if this means fitting it in while also working at a job you might not love. Financial challenges may ebb and flow but making work you are passionate about is invaluable.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
